Conferência do GUE-NGL “There is an alternative - No to NATO”

A Conferência pela Paz sob o lema "Há uma alternativa - Não à NATO!", iniciativa do GUE/NGL com a participação do PCP, terminou hoje em Bruxelas.
Organizada no âmbito da realização da Cimeira da NATO, que decorre no próximo mês de Julho em Varsóvia, o evento reuniu um conjunto muito alargado de oradores, activistas e organizações do movimento da paz da Europa e do Mundo.
O conjunto muito amplo de intervenções, permitiu, para além da caracterização desta organização, denunciar o carácter cada vez mais agressivo e belicista da NATO, bloco político-militar ao serviço do imperialismo que constitui uma permanente ameaça à paz mundial, instrumento de ingerência e agressão contra qualquer país que não aceite subjugar-se aos interesses estratégicos do imperialismo Norte-Americano. Foi realçada também a militarização da UE, salto que é evidente, nomeadamente, na resposta ao drama humanitário dos refugiados, verdadeira tragédia no Mediterrâneo, e com a criação de autênticos campos de concentração e deportação em solo europeu.
Do encontro resultou uma posição comum, que se anexa, que faz diversas exigências, das quais destacamos: a dissolução da NATO e a recusa da sua expansão, a rejeição de intervenções e confrontos militares em qualquer parte do mundo e a retirada da NATO do Mar Egeu.
Esta conferência foi ainda um importante momento de afirmação de alternativas pacificas à NATO, e de apelo à mobilização e luta de todos em defesa dos valores da Paz, da solidariedade e do desarmamento nuclear.
Our message from NATO’s capital – Brussels - There is an Alternative - NO to NATO!
1. We call for Peace, Solidarity and Equality, for disarmament, demilitarisation and the sovereign right of States to abandon this political-military bloc. We call for the end of all the political-military blocs.
2. We reject the current expansion policy of NATO, towards the East, North and South and call for a total withdrawal of all (permanent) NATO troops and the dismantling/closure of all NATO bases all over the world.
3. We demand to end the EU - NATO cooperation. We call for the entire demilitarisation of the EU and therefore strictly reject NATOs and the EU’s demand for spending 2 % of the GDP of NATO member states to be spent on defence.
4. We call for an immediate end of all actions driving the world further towards a new Cold War and new bloc – confrontations. Especially we call for the immediate dissolution of the Very High Readiness Task Force, the rejection of all plans to establish a quasi-permanent military presence of NATO in Eastern Europe and the cancellation of all military manoeuvres in the region.
5. We call for the demilitarization of all seas, and call on NATO to immediately stop all their missions on high seas including in the Mediterranean, the Aegean Sea, the Gulf of Aden and others parts of the world as in America Latina and Caribe. The use of military and rejecting people seeking protection and asylum breaches international law and must be terminated immediately. We strongly criticise the NATO’s action in the Middle East and North of Africa, which caused one of the biggest humanitarian tragedies since the Second World War.
6. We call for the stop of NATO’s nuclear policy “Deterrence and Defence” and its plans to modernise its nuclear weapons. We demand instead arms control, complete nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation and call for a WMD – Free Europe and WMD – Free Zone in the Mediterranean.
7. We strongly reject the construction of NATOs missile defence shield in Europe and instead call for the redirection of the funds for anti – poverty measures, mediation processes and disarmament.
8. We call for the withdrawal from all military structures of this expansive/imperialistic military alliance that repeatedly breached international law, and commonly work towards the complete dissolution of NATO.
