The Government, employers, Chega and the Liberal Initiative thought they could increase precariousness, further deregulate working hours, further oppress the lives of working people, dismiss without just cause, and that everyone would simply accept this as normal.
However, what workers have done in this huge struggle they have been waging – starting with the General Strike on December 11, but also in all other forms of struggle – was to say no, no and no to this Labour package, because they know what it means for their lives, for lives that are already difficult today and which some want to make even harder.
The Government thought it had a red carpet rolled out for it. It was wrong.
That's how it was then, and that's how it will be in the General Strike on June 3.
A General Strike that calls on all workers to participate.
Those who participated in the General Strike of December 11, but also those who couldn't participate for one reason or another, now have an opportunity to join this struggle, to join this movement to reject the Labour package, to reject and not allow each of us to pay the price of the war, to pay for the brutal increase in the cost of living, but also to open the path that is necessary: the path of wages, the path of rights, the path of stability, the path of time to live, time to be with their children, time to be able to enjoy their own life.
It is indeed possible to bring down this Labour package, because that's not what serves the workers, that's not what serves the Country.
What serves the Country is higher wages, more rights, more pensions for those who have worked their entire lives.
This is what is at stake, and it is with great confidence that this appeal is made so that all workers, all those who keep the country running, all those who create wealth every day, all those who carry this country on their backs, all of them must be valued, must be respected, must have the right to dignity and not have their backs trodden on.
