On the ‘trade’ agreement between the US and the European Union

On the ‘trade’ agreement between the US and the European Union

1. The US/EU agreement signed by Trump and Von der Leyen constitutes a deplorable act of surrender by the EU in the face of US impositions and interests. An agreement signed by the President of the European Commission that neglects the interests of EU countries and their peoples, particularly Portugal.

The PCP condemns the government's complicity in Israel's crimes

The PCP condemns the government's complicity in Israel's crimes

No words can express the horror and suffering that Israeli Zionism and US imperialism are inflicting on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and also in the occupied territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with the criminal complicity of the European Union. Day after day, the mainstream media show images of boundless violence and cruelty and a sinister accounting of the deliberate murder of populations, including the infamous imposition of starvation that is hitting babies and other children particularly hard.

Government propaganda doesn't erase the reality: life is difficult, and the country is hanging by a thread

Government propaganda doesn't erase the reality: life is difficult, and the country is hanging by a thread

Either the Portuguese State continues to have its hands stained with blood or it recognises the State of Palestine

Either the Portuguese State continues to have its hands stained with blood or it recognises the State of Palestine

Please allow me to welcome the presence of the Palestinian Ambassador, who is in the galleries following our debate. Since 2011, the PCP has been tabling projects to recognise the State of Palestine, in accordance with UN resolutions. This is an inevitable decision that has been refused time and time again, based essentially on two fallacies: The first is that the recognition of the State of Palestine must be dependent on the European Union.

For a Portugal with a future! No to the EU's neoliberal, federalist and militarist policies!

12 June 2025

It is forty years since the signing of the Treaty of Accession of Portugal to the European Economic Community, in 1985. Portugal's inclusion in the EEC was conceived and implemented as an integral part of the counter-revolutionary process of monopolistic recovery that countered the path of equality, justice and social progress, economic development, national sovereignty and independence, peace and cooperation achieved and initiated by the Portuguese people with the April Revolution.

PCP tables initiatives on labour legislation

6 June 2025

The PCP is committed to combating right-wing politics, while at the same time intervening and taking initiatives. It is in this context that we are tabling four initiatives today with the aim of strengthening workers' rights and improving their working conditions.

PCP calls a March “Fulfil the Constitution. Raise wages and pensions, for a better life”

4 June 2025

The living conditions of vast sectors of the population continue to deteriorate. Public Services, particularly the National Health Service, but also Public Schools, are deteriorating. There is a clear lack of answers in housing or in implementing the right to public nurseries and kindergartens.

In a democracy, the investiture of the Assembly of the Republic is an important moment and one that cannot ignore life out there

3 June 2025

Greetings Mr. President. The duties you are assuming once again are of enormous importance to the proper functioning of the Assembly of the Republic, as a sovereign body that must focus its attention on what really matters to the people, responding to their wishes and aspirations, for a Country of development and progress. There can be no room for offence, insult, discrimination or hate. We will intervene as always, openly, honestly and seriously at institutional level and in the political debate. With firmness and combativeness in the confrontation between political projects.

On the nomination of Luís Montenegro for Prime Minister

29 May 2025

The President of the Republic has nominated Luís Montenegro to form and present the government. This decision paves the way for the continuation of a policy directed against the interests of the workers and the people, aligned with the agenda of the economic groups and multinationals, aimed at exacerbating the attack on social, political and democratic rights and jeopardising national interests and sovereignty.

End the genocide! Solidarity with Palestine!

23 May 2025

Israel's crimes against the Palestinian people have reached unprecedented proportions, amounting to a real genocide in the Gaza Strip, with hundreds of people killed by Israeli bombings and continuous military attacks, the blockade on the entry of drinking water, food, medicines and other essential goods, the use of hunger as a form of aggression against the population, the systematic and complete destruction of homes, hospitals and other basic infrastructure, the proclaimed purpose to militarily occupy the entire territory and expel the Palestinian people from their land, Palestine.

21 May 2025

The Central Committee of the PCP, meeting on May 20, analysed the political framework resulting from the legislative elections of May 18, as well as the national and international situation, and pointed out the PCP's main lines of intervention in the coming months. I - The election results, the political framework and the national situation 1. The composition of the Assembly of the Republic resulting from the elections of May 18, saw a negative evolution, marked by the growth of AD (PSD and CDS), Chega and IL.

On the results of the early parliamentary elections of May 18

18 May 2025

In this election campaign, in this fight for everything that matters in the lives of the workers, the People, the youth and the Country, we affirmed the CDU as a force of courage, seriousness and confidence. We salute the activists of the CDU, and in particular our fellow coalition members the Ecologist Party “The Greens” and the Intervenção Democrática Association.

PCP salutes the 80th. anniversary of the Victory over Nazi-fascism. No to militarism and war! For peace and co-operation!

9 May 2025

Today, May 9th., marks the 80th. anniversary of the Victory over Nazi Fascism. Following the surrender of Nazi Germany in Berlin, millions of people took to the streets on May 9, 1945, to celebrate the end, in Europe, of the deadliest war in the history of Humanity. Unleashed by the fascist powers - Nazi Germany, fascist Italy and militarist Japan - World War II would end months later with Japan's capitulation on September 2.
