On this day, when the national celebration for democracy coincides with the national mourning for the death of Pope Francis, we would like to extend, on behalf of the PCP, our sorrow and condolences to all Catholics and their Church, and express our appreciation and deep respect for Pope Francis' actions in favour of dialogue and against intolerance, and his great closeness to the causes of Peace and the defence of the economic and social rights of those excluded from this society subjected to financial interests.

On Lenin's 155th birthday: the importance of his work and the relevance of his thought

Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, the leader of the October Revolution of 1917 and of the first Socialist State, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, was born on April 22, 1870. To mark the 155th anniversary of his birth and to recall his role and that of his Party in the emancipatory struggle of the workers and peoples of the whole world is a duty of remembrance, but it is above all a cause for inspiration and confidence in the present-day struggle for the revolutionary overcoming of Capitalism, against Imperialism and against war, for democracy, social progress, peace and Socialism.

On the results of the Elections to the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira

The regional elections in Madeira held today resulted in a negative outcome for the workers and people of the Region. First and foremost, because the CDU, despite increasing the number of votes and its percentage, did not regain its parliamentary representation by 65 votes, a necessary and irreplaceable element in the Regional Legislative Assembly to make the people's problems and aspirations heard and to act to respond to them.

PCP condemns Israel's bombings of the Gaza Strip in violation of the ceasefire agreement

The PCP strongly condemns the brutal attack launched this dawn by Israel on the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip, causing hundreds of deaths and more than a thousand injured, many of them children. This new massacre confirms that Israel has not abandoned its intention to continue the genocide in the Gaza Strip, as confirmed by the decision to prevent humanitarian aid from entering the Palestinian territory, in open violation of the terms of the agreement.

PSD/CDS government wants to hand over the health of 2.5 million people to the business of sickness

Today’s news confirms the denunciation made by the PCP of the government’s intention to privatise primary healthcare when it announced five public-private partnerships in healthcare. This decision, in addition to other measures included in the so-called Plan of Emergency and Transformation of Healthcare, would mean the privatisation of primary healthcare for at least 2.5 million people, around a quarter of the country's population.
