Another course for the country. Reject the Labour Package, exploitation and injustice

Another course for the country. Reject the Labour Package, exploitation and injustice

Life remains difficult for most workers, for the youth and those who have worked all their lives, but the media and political landscape is dominated by the elections for President of the Republic. It is impossible to look at the results of this first round without taking into account the continued promotion of reactionary forces and their demagogic actions, present in the succession of elections and beyond, and embodied this time in the candidacies of André Ventura, Cotrim de Figueiredo, Gouveia e Melo and Marques Mendes.

It is necessary to stop the sub-concession of CP's most profitable lines and the destruction of the company

It is necessary to stop the sub-concession of CP's most profitable lines and the destruction of the company

1. Yesterday, the PSD/CDS Government announced a series of decisions regarding CP, the most serious of which is the intention to sub-concession the most profitable railway lines in Portugal (Sintra/Azambuja, Cascais, Sado and Porto lines). This announcement confirms the Government's intention to privatise national rail transport and destroy CP as a major national company.

End US aggression! Solidarity with Bolivarian Venezuela!

End US aggression! Solidarity with Bolivarian Venezuela!

The PCP condemns the unacceptable aims of the Trump Administration to impose a puppet government in Venezuela, which would guarantee the appropriation by US oil multinationals of resources belonging to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, to the Venezuelan people. The PCP denounces and condemns the serious threats made by the US against several Latin American and Caribbean countries, such as Venezuela, Cuba, Colombia and Mexico, and reiterates that these also constitute a threat to all the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, and the entire world.

On the announcement of the privatisation of TAP

10 July 2025

Late this morning the government announced that it had decided to start the first phase of TAP's fourth privatisation process. After the first attempt almost destroyed TAP with the bankruptcy of the buyer - Swissair. After the third attempt ended with the capitalist fleeing and the company going bankrupt. Now the government intends to hand over to foreign capital that which is one of the main national companies, the country's biggest exporter of services, the guarantor of our territorial continuity and sovereignty in air transport.

The serious situation in obstetrics

4 July 2025

The news of the death of yet another newborn this morning, which was apparently avoidable if the woman had been given proper care, highlights the unsustainable situation of obstetrics in the National Health Service resulting from the actions of the current and previous governments. They have eroded the working conditions and pay of doctors in general and obstetricians in particular, even though they knew that obstetrics, along with paediatrics, was one of the specialties most coveted by the private sector, which, due to its lucrative potential, would seek to hire more specialists.

Housing has been turned into a commodity and its right into a business

2 July 2025

Thousands of people took to the streets this weekend, all over the country, demanding homes to live in. It is preposterous that there are hundreds of thousands of empty houses in Portugal when there are tens of thousands of families without a home to live in. Despite being enshrined in the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, the right to housing is far from being a reality for all families. And the guarantee that everyone has access to a decent home is increasingly distant.

Communiqué of the Central Committee of June 29, 2025

The Central Committee of the PCP, meeting on 29 June, analysed the national and international situation and outlined the PCP's main lines of intervention for the coming months, including the local elections and the elections for President of the Republic. I – International Situation

March "Comply with the Constitution. Raise wages and pensions, for a better life"

Comply with the Constitution. Raise wages and pensions, for a better life

26 June 2025

A warm welcome to all those present at this great initiative. “Comply with the Constitution, raise wages and pensions, for a better life”, this is the path we propose, and which is necessary to serve what matters and what matters is the life of those who work, those who have worked a lifetime and the youth. The march that we are holding here in Lisbon, but also at the same time in Porto, is an important moment of resistance, of affirmation of freedom and democracy, but also of hope and affirmation of the alternative that the Country needs.

PCP warns about the serious decisions of NATO summit

26 June 2025

After a very intense campaign aimed at justifying the arms race to public opinion, the meeting of NATO Heads of State and Prime Ministers held in The Hague on June 25 has just confirmed and formalised decisions at the highest level that worsen international tension, especially in Europe, and increase the danger of military conflicts of catastrophic proportions.

The Portuguese Communist Party Condemns the US Aggression Against Iran

22 June 2025

The PCP vehemently condemns the US aggression against Iran, which follows its support for the attacks initiated by Israel against this Middle Eastern country on June 13, 2025, in a clear violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter and of international law.

No to the use of Portuguese territory to escalate the aggression against Iran!

21 June 2025

Reports of the presence of US military aircraft in Terceira, in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, demand an immediate and urgent clarification by the PSD/CDS government. The PCP condemns any potential use of the Lajes Base by the US to escalate aggression against Iran and warns against Portugal’s involvement in this aggression, given the PSD/CDS government’s policy of alignment and subservience to imperialism.

End Israel's aggression against Iran! End the genocide of the Palestinian people! Peace in the Middle East!

13 June 2025

The PCP considers Israel's aggression against Iran to be extremely serious and strongly condemns it, following the various and serious provocations and attacks it has carried out against Iran, the genocide of the Palestinian people and Israel's continuous bombings and occupation of Lebanese and Syrian territory.

For a Portugal with a future! No to the EU's neoliberal, federalist and militarist policies!

12 June 2025

It is forty years since the signing of the Treaty of Accession of Portugal to the European Economic Community, in 1985. Portugal's inclusion in the EEC was conceived and implemented as an integral part of the counter-revolutionary process of monopolistic recovery that countered the path of equality, justice and social progress, economic development, national sovereignty and independence, peace and cooperation achieved and initiated by the Portuguese people with the April Revolution.
