PCP presents 15 proposals for fiscal justice and the defence of national interests

The Country has the means and resources that are essential to strengthen public services. Fiscal justice is therefore necessary to reduce taxes on low and middle incomes and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, and tax the profits of large economic groups and multinationals. A policy is needed to tackle the scandalous favouritism shown to economic groups. In the scope of the discussion of the State Budget for 2026, the PCP today submitted 15 proposals that demonstrate that fiscal justice and combating tax evasion are possible.

Investigate crimes and responsibilities. Stop the sale of Novo Banco and the losses for the Country

1. Yesterday, searches were carried out by the Judicial Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office involving Novo Banco, KPMG and other entities related to the management of that institution's assets, on the very same day that the Government and the Resolution Fund signed the process for the sale of Novo Banco to the buyer BPCE.

PCP presents initial proposals for the 2026 State Budget

Following the discussion and vote on the 2026 State Budget, that revealed the consequences of the political choices contained therein, which will lead to greater inequality and injustice, with the benefits granted to big capital through IRC corporate income tax cuts, tax benefits, public-private partnerships and large transfers of public resources, which contrast with a policy of low wages and pensions and attacks on public services and on the social functions of the State.

End the criminal US blockade against Cuba

End the criminal US blockade against Cuba

For the 33rd. time, the overwhelming majority of countries present at the United Nations General Assembly took a stand to end the blockade imposed by the US on Cuba. This result, despite the unacceptable falsehoods and pressure exerted by the US on various countries to coerce them into changing their vote, once again constituted an expressive condemnation of the US's actions towards Cuba in the framework of the UN.

Demonstration “Free Palestine! Peace in the Middle East”

«It is imperative to put an immediate end to the massacre of the Palestinian people»

12 October 2024

Paulo Raimundo, General Secretary of the PCP, attended the demonstration that gathered thousands of people in the centre of Lisbon to demand an end to the violence and support the struggle for the independence of Palestine. The demonstration closed the National Days of Solidarity with the Palestinian people, which took place from October 2 to 12 all over the country, under the slogan “Free Palestine! Peace in the Middle East”.

PCP calls for an immediate and permanent cease-fire in the Middle East

3 October 2024

Expressing its concern for the worsening situation in the Middle East, the PCP vehemently condemns the escalation of war promoted by Israel, namely its new aggression against Lebanon, which confirms Israel’s intention to expand the conflict to the entire region. One year of genocide against the Palestinian people, and successive provocations and attacks against various countries, prove that Israel’s Zionist Government is not interested in peace in the Middle East.

PCP condemns the escalation of aggression in Lebanon

22 September 2024

PCP firmly condemns the escalation of Israel's war against Lebanon that is once again targeting the Lebanese people and is inseparable from the genocide by Israel’s Zionist government against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, which and threatens to ignite the entire Middle East.

11 September 2024

On behalf of the Portuguese Communist Party, I would like to greet all those present here and express special thanks to the artists and all those involved in the cultural event that we had the privilege of attending at this memorial session, at a time when tomorrow, September 12, marks 100 years since the birth of Amílcar Cabral. A greeting to the diplomatic representatives of the Angolan, Cape Verdean, Chinese, Cuban, Mozambican and East Timorese states, who honoured us with their presence.

Rally of the Avante! Festival24

Rally of the Avante! Festival 24

8 September 2024

What a beautiful Festival this is, built inch by inch by thousands of militants and friends of the Party and of the Festival. Please allow me to say a special word to the JCP and the youth who have made their presence felt and made this Festival their own, which in the words of Álvaro Cunhal is “the biggest, the most amazing, the most fraternal and humane ever held in our country”.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the importance of the struggle for peace

6 August 2024

There are some events that, because of their historical significance and the lessons they hold, will never be forgotten. Such is the case with the atomic bombings of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, on August 6 and 9, 1945, respectively. Bombings that immediately caused around 200,000 deaths and left an unspeakable trail of destruction and suffering.

On the worsening of the situation in the Middle East as a result of Israel's escalation of confrontation

2 August 2024

The PCP expresses its great concern in view of the escalation of the murders carried out by Israel of the head of Hamas' political leadership, Ismael Haniyeh, in Tehran, Iran, and of Hezbollah leaders in Beirut, Lebanon. These actions are an expression of Israel's condemnable policy of state terrorism, which seeks by all means to exacerbate tension and plunge the Middle East into a widespread confrontation, with even more dramatic consequences for the peoples of the region.

On the presidential elections in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

30 July 2024

The presidential elections in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela were an important democratic moment, in which millions of Venezuelans took part and whose results reaffirmed popular support for the Bolivarian process, which is all the more significant when it is expressed in the context of decades of resistance to the successive interference and destabilisation operations promoted by the USA and the European Union against Venezuela.

For peace! For a system of collective security! No to war! No to NATO!

25 July 2024

The NATO Summit, which took place in Washington from July 9 to 11, was marked by the profusion of warmongering rhetoric, the affirmation of the offensive nature of this political-military bloc, the insistence on its strategy of confrontation and war, confirming that it is the greatest threat to peace and to the peoples of the world.
