Communiqué of the Central Committee of the PCP of June 27 and 28, 2026

Communiqué of the Central Committee of the PCP of June 27 and 28, 2026

The Central Committee of the PCP, meeting on June 27 and 28, 2026, analysed the country’s political and social situation, valued the workers’ struggle and the defeat of the Labour Package, evaluated developments in the international situation, and outlined the Party’s immediate course of action. It also assessed the implementation of the resolution on the Party and the strengthening of its organisation and activities.

«Struggle, path to victory»

«Struggle, path to victory»

What an important journey we are embarking on, and we have more than enough reasons for it to be so. Here is the victory march, here is the celebration of work, of resistance, of struggle. We said: we will not give up, the package is going to fall, and the package fell. A great victory for the workers. The Labour Package has been defeated.

A great victory of the workers in Portugal! The workers’ struggle has defeated the Labour Package in the workplaces, in the streets and in Parliament!

A great victory of the workers in Portugal! The workers’ struggle has defeated the Labour Package in the workplaces, in the streets and in Parliament!

The workers in Portugal have achieved, through their struggle, a great victory in defending their labour and trade union rights, by defeating the Labour Package [of legislation] put forth by the PSD/CDS Government and which was supported by the bosses’ confederations. This is a great victory, which shows the decisive strength of the workers’ organization, struggle and unity.

MPs and political parties will have to decide: Are they on the side of the workers or on the side of the Government’s labour package?

MPs and political parties will have to decide: Are they on the side of the workers or on the side of the Government’s labour package?

Now is the moment of truth, every MP and every party will have to decide whether to vote against or in favour of even greater precariousness, even greater deregulation of working hours and people’s lives, even greater pressure on wages, the liberalisation of dismissals, or unpaid overtime through the “hour bank” scheme.

Communiqué of the Central Committee of the PCP of February 10, 2026

10 February 2026

The Central Committee of the PCP, meeting on February 10, 2026, analysed the results of the second round of the elections for President of the Republic and their most immediate impact on the national political situation. The Central Committee of the PCP expressed its solidarity with the populations affected by severe weather and storms.

Joint Statement «Stop the escalation of aggression against Cuba!»

9 February 2026

We firmly condemn US imperialism’s new escalation of aggression against the sovereignty and independence of Cuba and against the rights of the Cuban people.

On the results of the second round of the Elections for President of the Republic

8 February 2026

The PCP salutes all those who exercised their right to vote today, giving expression to a significant turnout in the elections, and extends a word of solidarity to all those who did so in particularly difficult conditions due to the consequences of the storms. A significant turnout that defeated André Ventura in the second round of the elections for President of the Republic, reflecting the Portuguese people's rejection of his candidacy and the reactionary and retrograde project he represents.

No to US aggression! Solidarity with Cuba!

30 January 2026

The PCP strongly denounces and condemns the escalation of the US aggression against Cuba, which constitutes an affront to the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

Rally "Another course for the country. Reject the Labour Package, exploitation and injustice"

Another course for the country. Reject the Labour Package, exploitation and injustice

24 January 2026

Life remains difficult for most workers, for the youth and those who have worked all their lives, but the media and political landscape is dominated by the elections for President of the Republic. It is impossible to look at the results of this first round without taking into account the continued promotion of reactionary forces and their demagogic actions, present in the succession of elections and beyond, and embodied this time in the candidacies of André Ventura, Cotrim de Figueiredo, Gouveia e Melo and Marques Mendes.

It is necessary to stop the sub-concession of CP's most profitable lines and the destruction of the company

23 January 2026

1. Yesterday, the PSD/CDS Government announced a series of decisions regarding CP, the most serious of which is the intention to sub-concession the most profitable railway lines in Portugal (Sintra/Azambuja, Cascais, Sado and Porto lines). This announcement confirms the Government's intention to privatise national rail transport and destroy CP as a major national company.

Communique of the Central Committee of the PCP of January 20, 2026

21 January 2026

The Central Committee of the PCP, meeting January 20, 2026, analysed the elections for President of the Republic, assessed developments in the national and international situation, and addressed aspects of the Party's activity, political initiative, and strengthening. I Elections for President of the Republic

End US military aggression against Venezuela – For Peace in Latin America and the Caribbean

End US aggression! Solidarity with Bolivarian Venezuela!

5 January 2026

The PCP condemns the unacceptable aims of the Trump Administration to impose a puppet government in Venezuela, which would guarantee the appropriation by US oil multinationals of resources belonging to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, to the Venezuelan people. The PCP denounces and condemns the serious threats made by the US against several Latin American and Caribbean countries, such as Venezuela, Cuba, Colombia and Mexico, and reiterates that these also constitute a threat to all the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, and the entire world.

End US military aggression against Venezuela – For Peace in Latin America and the Caribbean

3 January 2026

The PCP strongly condemns the military aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the abduction of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife by the US, which constitutes a very serious violation of international law. The PCP calls for an end to the military aggression and the immediate release of the President of Venezuela and other Venezuelan citizens by the US.

New Year's Message from Paulo Raimundo

29 December 2025

Confidence and hope. These are the words I address to all of you, to all those who live here, to all those who work here, and to all those who went out all over the world in search of the better life that Portugal denied them. It is true. It is true that the month is too long for the wages to last. It is true that we face the drama of access to housing, access to healthcare, and a shortage of teachers. It is true that there is a lack of nurseries, care homes, low pensions and retirement benefits, and that often only overtime and double jobs make it possible to get by.
