General Strike, December 11, 2025: a rejection of the Labour Package and a great assertion of the workers’ strength

The great and expressive scale of today’s General Strike is an enormous statement of the workers’ strength and unity, and a powerful expression of rejection of a labour package [of laws] at the service of capital, which was put forth by the PSD/CDS Government and which is supported by Chega and Inicativa Liberal [parties].

Greve Geral Contra o Pacote Laboral

Greve Geral Contra o Pacote Laboral

All on General Strike tomorrow!

All on General Strike tomorrow!

With the legal coverage of the advance notice handed by CGTP-IN, which was supported and reinforced by others, all workers have the possibility and duty of class solidarity to join the general strike tomorrow, December 11. The reasons also affect everyone. We must reject and force the Government to withdraw the labour package, which threatens us all, and demand higher wages, more rights and more and better public services for everyone.

End the unacceptable blackmails, provocations and threats by the US against Venezuela and other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean

28 October 2025

The US has been stepping up its interference, blackmail and intimidation actions against various countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, such as Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua and Venezuela. In this context, the deployment of significant US offensive military means near the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the recurring provocative actions carried out by the US in the Caribbean Sea represent a serious threat to the sovereignty and rights of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples and to peace and security in the region.

The State Budget is bad because of what it contains and because it is an instrument of a disastrous policy for those who live and work here.

27 October 2025

Mr President, honourable Members, Mr. Prime Minister, we are discussing a State Budget that is a piece of a disastrous policy based on propaganda and serving a minority that lives off the hard life of the majority of the people. A budget at the behest of Brussels, of tax breaks, of diverting resources from the National Health Service to groups in the business of disease, of transfers to new Public-Private Partnerships and of support that is never lacking for the golden non-habitual residents.

Communiqué of the Central Committee of the PCP of October 14, 2025

14 October 2025

The Central Committee of the PCP, meeting on October 14, 2025, analysed the results of the local elections, addressed various aspects of the national and international situation and the elections for President of the Republic. It also decided on lines of action for the intervention and strengthening of the Party. I - Local elections

On the results of the local government elections of October 12, 2025

12 October 2025

In very demanding conditions, the results have confirmed the CDU as an important force in local government. The results show a decrease in the CDU’s electoral expression – whether in terms of its votes and mandates, or in terms of the municipalities where it is the majority force. This result does not reflect the recognized legacy of work and participation of its members elected to local government bodies, and will have a negative influence on the conditions that could ensure an administration corresponding to the interests of the populations.

Continue the Solidarity with the Palestinian People! For a Permanent Ceasefire! For an End to the Genocide! For a Sovereign and Independent Palestine!

9 October 2025

After two years of genocide of the Palestinian people, perpetrated by Israel, the understanding that has now been announced must represent a step towards ensuring a permanent ceasefire, an end to the genocide, full access to humanitarian aid, the full withdrawal of the Israeli military forces from the Gaza Strip and an end to its attacks in the West Bank and in East Jerusalem.

The European Commission deserves to be censured! For its complicity in the genocide in Palestine! For the major economic interests that its policy serves! For the arms race it promotes!

6 October 2025

As we pointed out when the motion of censure was voted last July, there is no lack of valid reasons to censure the European Commission – a censure that reality continues to demand.

End the blockade against Cuba

4 October 2025

João Oliveira, Member of the European Parliament for the PCP, submitted a question for oral answer to the European Commission and the Council of the European Union, stressing the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed unilaterally on Cuba by the United States of America.

On the use of the Lajes Base to supply weapons to Israel

3 October 2025

The PCP considers it intolerable that F35 aircraft sold by the US to Israel have used the Lajes Base as a stopover. The PCP also notes the argument put forward by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, casting responsibility on the Ministry of Defence, thus highlighting the Portuguese Government's lack of clear guidance on the Israeli regime and associating Portugal with the supply of weapons for its genocidal policy, of occupation and colonisation.

Members of the European Parliament sign letter denouncing the US intention to prevent Palestinian representatives from participating in the UN General Assembly Session

2 September 2025

João Oliveira, Member of the European Parliament for the PCP, has issued an open letter for other MEPs to sign, urging the European Union institutions to take effective measures to ensure access and full participation of representatives of the Palestinian people in the proceedings of the United Nations General Assembly, which will place this month in New York.

On the Recognition of the State of Palestine by the Portuguese Government

21 September 2025

The Recognition of the State of Palestine by the Portuguese Government is a measure that was long overdue and should have been taken long ago. It is a measure that has been repeatedly proposed by the PCP for many years, particularly in the Assembly of the Republic, and which was systematically rejected by successive PSD/CDS and PS governments, under the cover ofvarious subterfuges to prevent Portugal from adopting a decision that it had the sovereign right to take.
