Communiqué of the Central Committee of the PCP of October 24, 2021

The Central Committee of the PCP, meeting on October 24, 2021, analysed the situation of the country and the necessary response to the problems.

The country demands solutions

1. The country is faced with the consequences of decades of right-wing policies, which deepened injustices, inequalities and exploitation, as well as structural deficits in the productive, technological, energy and demographic fields.

Crisis is not having a salary or pension, housing or conditions to raise children

Please allow me to take advantage of this meeting following the elections to welcome the valuable contribution of our candidates, militants and activists of the political forces that make up our Broad United Democratic Coalition (CDU) and the many democrats without party affiliation who, together, built the dynamic election campaign of the CDU!

We need measures to counter increases in fuel price

The successive increases in fuel prices are a matter of great concern for most of the Portuguese and, due to the impacts they have on the entire economy, call into question the need for recovery considering the situation that the country is still facing.

The PCP considers it is essential to take urgent measures to counter these price increases, combining the fight against price speculation with fiscal measures.

«We could ask: how do the answers that the workers and the people demand contribute to the alleged crisis?»

Greetings to all of you and through you to the workers and people of Porto and this whole Region.

Greetings also and our appreciation to all our friends of the Ecologist Party «The Greens», of the Democratic Intervention, to the thousands of independents and activists of the CDU who were side by side with us in the recent electoral combat for Local Government which we fought together, creating a great campaign of contact with the populations.

A global response to national problems and the State Budget proposal for 2022

The situation and dimension of the national problems require solutions to face them.

Other options and an alternative path are needed that contemplate the issues that mark the lives of the workers, the people and the country.

The debate on the State Budget must be part of this global response, which is as necessary as it is pressing. The Budget has its own value, but it is – it must be – an expression and translation of these options.

On the Pandora Papers journalistic investigation and the fight against tax evasion and fraud

The elements now disclosed on the Pandora Papers journalistic investigation, with references to the involvement of former Portuguese leaders in actions of concealment of wealth and tax evasion, call for clarification and finding of responsibilities whatever the consequences.

Communiqué of the Central Committee of the PCP of September 28, 2021

The Central Committee of the PCP, meeting on September 28, 2021, analysed the results of the September 26 local elections, addressed various aspects of the national and international situation and the necessary response to the country's problems. It set down lines of work, intervention and reinforcement of the Party in the coming months.

I - Results of the local elections

About the results of the elections for local authorities 2021

The CDU notes the results achieved in a particularly demanding context. A result that had to face, in its construction, a set of adverse factors, but which the mobilization and commitment of thousands of activists and candidates built up, affirming our work, honesty and competence as recognized reasons for support and trust.

A result which, despite its national expression, falls short of the goals that were defined.

The CDU, regardless of the losses registered, confirms itself as a great force in local government.

«The country needs to move forward and follow a new course!»

Warmest greetings to all of you, to all the builders, participants and visitors to the Avante! Festival. The Festival of an irreplaceable newspaper, the central organ of this Portuguese Communist Party. This Party, founded on March 6, 1921, which in this year 2021 has completed 100 years of life and struggle!

On the recent developments in Afghanistan

The recent developments in Afghanistan, including the entry of the Taliban in Kabul, regardless of their future evolution, constitute a clear and humiliating defeat for the US, NATO and all those who participated and colluded in their strategy of war and occupation, including successive Portuguese governments – war and occupation that the PCP opportunely denounced and condemned.
