Jerónimo de Sousa, General Secretary of the PCP, after his own assessment, reflecting on his health situation and the requirements corresponding to the responsibilities he holds, raised the issue of his substitution from the functions he performs, while remaining a member of the Central Committee of the PCP. It is worth noting, at this time, the great dedication and diligence with which he held these high responsibilities, for a long period, an example of commitment to the ideal and project of the PCP, at the service of the workers, the people and the Country, of peace, friendship and solidarity among peoples, as well as the willingness to continue his militant action.

Following the issue raised, which is understandable in view of the concrete situation, and after the due consultation is caried out, the Central Committee of the PCP will have a meeting next Saturday, November 12, after the first day of the proceedings of the National Conference “Taking the initiative, strengthening the Party, responding to the new demands”, in which the proposal for the election of Paulo Raimundo as General Secretary of the PCP will be tabled.

Paulo Raimundo belongs to a younger generation, with a life path marked by a diversified experience, with capacity, involvement in the Party collective, prepared for a responsibility that associates the public dimension with connection, contact and identification with the workers and the popular masses and with the Party, its organisations and militants.

The PCP, within the framework of its collective functioning, with the individual responsibilities that are inherent to it, empowered with the conclusions of the National Conference, will continue and intensify its action, affirming its identity and its commitment to the workers, the people and the Country.
