The PCP expresses its deep concern at the serious developments in the situation in Eastern Europe, involving large-scale Russian military operations in Ukraine, far beyond the Donbass region, and calls for an urgent de-escalation of the conflict, for the establishment of a cease-fire and the opening of a path of negotiation.
End the escalation of US and NATO confrontation against Russia - defend peace, promote disarmament

The PCP condemns the escalation of confrontation promoted by the US and NATO against Russia. An escalation that, taking place at the military, economic and political levels, and being sustained by a fierce disinformation campaign, constitutes a serious threat to peace.
The aggressive action by the US and NATO has intensified over the last few weeks, with the deployment of more means and military contingents in Eastern Europe – including military support to Ukraine – accompanied by the threat of imposing new economic sanctions against Russia.

The CDU, PCP and PEV [coalition] have had a constant intervention which, not disregarding any possibility of defending, restoring and winning rights, prevented regressions and scored advances that had a positive impact on the lives of millions of people. The evolution in the country’s situation imposed that solutions be sought for the national problems, for the lives of the Portuguese workers and people. But instead the PS, striving for an absolute majority, in convergence with the President of the Republic, brought about the convening of early elections.
