50 years of the fascist military coup in Chile - A crime that cannot be forgotten

50 years of the fascist military coup in Chile - A crime that cannot be forgotten

On September 11, 1973, exactly 50 years ago, a military coup, led by Augusto Pinochet, overthrew President Salvador Allende and his Government of Popular Unity, took power by force and imposed a brutal fascist dictatorship on the Chilean people. A heinous act that communists, and certainly other democrats, have the responsibility and duty to mark. Not letting fall into oblivion the brutal wave of violence that characterised the coup and horrified the Chilean people and the world.

Rally of the 47th. Avante Festival!

Rally of the 47th. Avante Festival!

From here I salute the thousands who built, promoted and those who ensure the functioning of this great Festival, I salute the youth and JCP who make this remarkable collective construction, and rightly so, their Festival. I salute all the visitors, those who are always there, those who have returned and those who are here for the first time. Here you are at home and know that tomorrow we will be by your side, in different expressions of life, in the difficulties, in the dream, in the joy, in the fair struggles that we will carry out.

Yes to Peace! For a world free of nuclear weapons!

Yes to Peace! For a world free of nuclear weapons!

August 6, 1945 is a date that progressive and peace-loving forces around the world signal, so that the memory of the monstrous crime, which was the launching of the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima ( and three days later on Nagasaki), is not forgotten and learn from that tragedy, which caused thousands of deaths and suffering that lasts until today, lessons for the fight against militarism and war and for nuclear disarmament.

Presentation of the book “TAP Dossier: Resisting privatisations”

Presentation of the book “TAP Dossier: Resisting privatisations”

The book that we present here today is, and as its name implies, PCP’s contribution not only for resisting the privatisation of TAP, but also a clear denunciation of the tragedy of privatisations in Portugal. A tragedy sustained for years and years by a brutal ideological campaign aimed at public companies, seeking to convince the workers and the Portuguese people that what was theirs, built with their effort and work, should be delivered into the hands of capital.

PCP stands in solidarity with Public Administration Workers

18 November 2022

The PCP expressed today, in various parts of the country, its solidarity with the Public Administration workers who joined the National Strike, convened by the Common Front. It was an important day of struggle, with a very significant expression in various sectors, whose effects were particularly visible in the areas of healthcare and education, with closures and disruption of the functioning of many schools, local administration and other public services.

Constitution of the Portuguese Republic: comply the enshrined rights and project

17 November 2022

What is relevant and decisive about the Constitution is its compliance. The constitutional amendment projects presented by PSD, IL and Chega prove that the constitutional amendment process is determined by the attack on the democratic regime and fundamental rights and by the objective of giving constitutional cover to right-wing policies, mutilating and subverting the Constitution.

National Conference

We are halfway through the National Conference. Following the preparatory phase and and the conclusions of the XXI Congress, reaffirming the communist identity, the class nature, objectives and principles, we involved the Party, we deepened the reflection, we built solutions, while at the same time that we encouraged and mobilised for the struggle, a struggle that was present here and that we salute.
