Statement by the Central Committee of the PCP - Meeting of 14th December

The PCP Central Committee met on 14 December 2014, having analysed Portugal's situation as well as aspects of the international situation. It examined developments in the mass struggle and in the work to bring about a break with right-wing policies and to build a patriotic and left-wing alternative. The Central Committee outlined preparations for the 2015 parliamentary election, as well as to continue strengthening and asserting the Party.

The PCP expresses its congratulations with the liberation of the Cuban patriots jailed in the USA

The Portuguese Communist Party expresses its congratulations for the liberation of the three Cuban patriots Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernández and Ramón Labañino, who were still detained in US jails, since 1998.

PCP condemns the murder of a Palestinian Minister

The PCP condemns the murder, by the Israeli occupier's military forces, of Ziad Abu Ein, a Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Chairman of the Committee Against the Apartheid Wall and the Settlements. Ziad Abu Ein was murdered when he was taking part in a demonstration by Palestinian activists, near Ramallah, against the confiscation of Palestinian lands and the destruction of crops and olive trees in the occupied territories of Palestine.

For a Europe of the peoples

Yesterday morning, Jerónimo de Sousa visited the European Parliament for a meeting with the eurodeputies and presidency of GUE/NGL (European United Left - Nordic Green Left), political group to which the eurodeputies of PCP belong. The General-secretary was accompanied by Manuela Bernardino and Ângelo Alves, of the Secretariat and Political Commission of the Party, respectively.

Public Administration workers in struggle for a 35 hour workweek, against lay-offs, for the defense of quality public services

On December 4th, thousands of local administration workers held a protest march in Lisbon demanding respect for collective contracts and publication of the Collective Public Employer Agreement (ACEP) that enshrines the 35 hour workweek, as well as reaffirms the constitutional autonomy of Local Power.

CGTP-IN National March “For a left-wing and sovereign policy”

In a National March that took place last November 21-25th, called by the General Confederation of Portuguese Workers (CGTP-IN), thousands of workers demonstrated throughout the country, showing their complete indignation towards the right-wing policies of the PSD/CDS government that is only exploiting and impoverishing the country.

PCP participates in the 16th International Meeting of Parties Communist and Workers

The Portuguese Communist Party participated at the 16th International Meeting of Parties Communist and Workers (IMCWP) held in Guayaquil, Ecuador from 13 to 15 November 2014.
