The PCP strongly denounces and condemns the recent serious statements by US President Donald Trump regarding the situation in Palestine and the Middle East, which explicitly proclaim the expulsion of the Palestinian people from the Gaza Strip and the occupation of this territory by the US.

The PCP repudiates the objectives of the visit to Portugal by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, which is part of a process of pressure and blackmail to increase military spending and promote a warmongering drift, objectives that are contrary to Peace and Portugal's interests.

The announced ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, whose fulfilment and implementation needs to be verified, must ensure an effective end to the attacks and massacres carried out by Israel, the unconditional access of urgent humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip - which has been prevented by Israel - and the complete withdrawal of Israeli military forces from this Palestinian territory.
PCP condemns the attack on the Venezuelan Consulate in Lisbon

The PCP strongly condemns the attack on the Consulate General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Lisbon and urges the competent Portuguese authorities to investigate and hold the perpetrators responsible.
This is an unacceptable act that cannot fail to be seen in the light of the practice of terrorist violence that Bolivarian Venezuela has suffered over the years.

The communist ideal and project are the revolutionary compass of our Party. However hostile the circumstances and whatever the immediate tasks and tactical alliances, we must never lose sight of the fact that the highest objective of our struggle and the raison d'être of our Party is the unrelenting struggle against capitalist exploitation and the construction in Portugal of a socialist and communist society.

To address the struggle that we are waging by addressing the context in which it takes place may sound like justification. It is not so. Bearing in mind these conditions, the framework in which the struggle is being waged, the existing balance of forces, assessing the means used to condition our action, identifying those who oppose it - are all essential starting points in order to confront obstacles, overcome difficulties, guarantee success for the Party's response.
