The international relations of PCP, the international communist and revolutionary movement and the anti-imperialist front

Comrades

As stated in the proposal of political resolution, the international situation is, in general terms, worsening as a result of imperialism's escalation of confrontation and war, which, in addition to its brutal consequences for millions of human beings, contains dangers of a conflict of major proportions.

Reality is demonstrating that, in the face of its relative decline, the United States of America, along with other great capitalist powers, is using all its means to protect its hegemonic dominance.

Rupture and alternative. Patriotic and left-wing policy. The aim of the struggle today. Contents and objectives.

Comrades

At the present moment, the political objectives of the PCP's action are a rupture with the right-wing policy and the affirmation of an alternative, patriotic and left-wing policy, which goes hand in hand with the defence of the democratic regime and the implementation of the rights and the project enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic.

What, after all, is this alternative policy that has been talked about so much here at this Congress? How can we implement it? What are its contents and objectives?

The Struggle Against Imperialism and for Peace

Comrades,

I warmly welcome the delegates and guests to this important XXII Congress of the PCP, held at a time of resistance and struggle in our country and when, internationally, conflicts with dramatic consequences for the peoples of the world are growing, but the denunciation of imperialist aggression and calls for peace from many different quarters are also making themselves heard.

The Party’s link to the masses

Comrades and friends,

It is in the link with the masses, the knowledge of the concrete reality and the ability to intervene and transform it that the Party's social, political, ideological and electoral influence depends on.

The link with the masses is both an objective of the Party's action and the source of its strength.

The Party organization – reason and role

Here we stand, the Portuguese Communist Party, holding its XXII Congress, analysing the reality in which it intervenes, reaffirming its confidence in the strength and capacity of the workers and people to face the difficult times ahead, aware that these are times of resistance and struggle, but also times to face reality , with courage, determination and capacity for initiative.

Here we are giving an account of the work done.

«The privatisation agenda and the operation against April - defeat right-wing policies and reactionary projects»

Just as the nationalisations were a central feature of the revolutionary process, from their implementation through the actions of the People-Armed Forces Alliance to their enshrinement in the Constitution of the Republic on April 2, 1976, the privatisations were also one of the central elements of the counter-revolutionary process, first in the reconstruction of monopoly capitalism and the power of the big families, later on in the denationalisation of the economy and many of its strategic sectors, with the consequences that are there to see: the destruction of the productive apparatus and

«It is imperative to put an immediate end to the massacre of the Palestinian people»

Paulo Raimundo, General Secretary of the PCP, attended the demonstration that gathered thousands of people in the centre of Lisbon to demand an end to the violence and support the struggle for the independence of Palestine. The demonstration closed the National Days of Solidarity with the Palestinian people, which took place from October 2 to 12 all over the country, under the slogan “Free Palestine! Peace in the Middle East”.

PCP condemns the escalation of aggression in Lebanon

PCP firmly condemns the escalation of Israel's war against Lebanon that is once again targeting the Lebanese people and is inseparable from the genocide by Israel’s Zionist government against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, which and threatens to ignite the entire Middle East.

Memorial Session of the Centenary of the Birth of Amílcar Cabral

On behalf of the Portuguese Communist Party, I would like to greet all those present here and express special thanks to the artists and all those involved in the cultural event that we had the privilege of attending at this memorial session, at a time when tomorrow, September 12, marks 100 years since the birth of Amílcar Cabral.

A greeting to the diplomatic representatives of the Angolan, Cape Verdean, Chinese, Cuban, Mozambican and East Timorese states, who honoured us with their presence.

Rally of the Avante! Festival 24

What a beautiful Festival this is, built inch by inch by thousands of militants and friends of the Party and of the Festival.

Please allow me to say a special word to the JCP and the youth who have made their presence felt and made this Festival their own, which in the words of Álvaro Cunhal is “the biggest, the most amazing, the most fraternal and humane ever held in our country”.
