PCP denounces provocative and militaristic escalation by the US in Latin America

The PCP denounces and repudiates the provocative and aggressive actions by the Trump Administration currently underway in Latin America, namely in the Caribbean Sea, falsely invoking the fight against drug trafficking, and warns of the serious threat posed by the growth of militarism and interventionism by US imperialism to the sovereignty and rights of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples and to peace and security in the region.

No to the labour package: confront and defeat the attack on workers

The PSD/CDS government, with the support of CH and IL and made viable by the PS, is pursuing a policy at the service of big capital, heightening exploitation, dismantling public services, attacking the democratic system and jeopardising national sovereignty.

The government has announced a labour package that is a declaration of war on workers. The government, those who favour its policies and big capital are there with their goals, which have to be confronted and can be defeated.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the urgency of the struggle for peace

This is the 80th. anniversary of the atomic bombings of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945, respectively.

Bombings that instantly caused around 200,000 deaths and left an unspeakable trail of destruction and suffering. A heinous crime against Humanity that absolutely nothing can justify, but which the US tried to excuse with the false argument of defeating Japan, when Japan was already militarily defeated and when in fact it was a demonstration of US military power and its aim of imposing US hegemony on the world.

The Portuguese government must respect Sahrawi people's right to self-determination

The PCP rejects the Portuguese government's position of disrespecting the right to self-determination of the Saharawi people, which is enshrined in international law, in particular in repeated United Nations resolutions.

The Portuguese government's alignment with the position of the Kingdom of Morocco represents support for the continuation of Morocco's illegal occupation of territories in Western Sahara, in direct violation of international law.

For an immediate recognition of the State of Palestine and an end to Israel's crimes

In view of the government's announcement of contacts about a possible recognition of the State of Palestine, deferring a possible decision to September, the PCP reiterates that such a decision is urgent and should have already been implemented, as the PCP has repeatedly proposed in Parliament. The announcement that has now been made by the Prime Minister, is inseparable from the pressure of public opinion and the broad movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of the ongoing crimes perpetrated by the State of Israel.

On the ‘trade’ agreement between the US and the European Union

1. The US/EU agreement signed by Trump and Von der Leyen constitutes a deplorable act of surrender by the EU in the face of US impositions and interests. An agreement signed by the President of the European Commission that neglects the interests of EU countries and their peoples, particularly Portugal.

The PCP condemns the government's complicity in Israel's crimes

No words can express the horror and suffering that Israeli Zionism and US imperialism are inflicting on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and also in the occupied territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with the criminal complicity of the European Union. Day after day, the mainstream media show images of boundless violence and cruelty and a sinister accounting of the deliberate murder of populations, including the infamous imposition of starvation that is hitting babies and other children particularly hard.

After the privatisation of BES, after the Espírito Santo family and the groups that orbited around them had squandered the Bank's resources for decades, after mismanagement had opened up a financial hole, after the then PSD/CDS government having moved towards a resolution of BES in 2014, which opened the door to the flight of assets, holdings and a good part of the capital.

The serious situation in obstetrics

The news of the death of yet another newborn this morning, which was apparently avoidable if the woman had been given proper care, highlights the unsustainable situation of obstetrics in the National Health Service resulting from the actions of the current and previous governments. They have eroded the working conditions and pay of doctors in general and obstetricians in particular, even though they knew that obstetrics, along with paediatrics, was one of the specialties most coveted by the private sector, which, due to its lucrative potential, would seek to hire more specialists.
