Music, musicians and the epidemic: consequences and solutions

I would like to start by thanking you for having accepted our invitation to be here at this hearing whose theme “Music, musicians and the epidemic - consequences and solutions”, is part of a broader intervention by the PCP in the culture sector. A hearing that has two main aims: to acquaint you with the assessment that we make of the culture sector in this context of epidemic and our proposals, and to listen to your opinions and suggestions for us to consider them in our intervention.

PCP welcomes annulment of the sentences against Lula da Silva

The PCP welcomes the annulment of the sentences passed against Lula da Silva, a decision that gives great joy to all those who defend freedom, justice and democracy.

A decision that confirms the clear political motivation of the Lava-Jato process and its inseparable articulation with the institutional coup carried out in Brazil with the illegitimate and scandalous removal of the elected President Dilma Rousseff, in 2016.

«Celebrating 100 years, here we are and here we remain, ready and determined to continue the struggle at the service of the people and the country»

«We started all the acts of celebration of the Centenary of the Portuguese Communist Party, singing “The Internationale”, the Party anthem that is a stimulus to our struggle, by singing it in unison affirming our ideal, our dimension as an internationalist Party, which bears as its own the causes of the liberation and emancipation of the workers and peoples from all over the world. A way to express and also convey our sincere thanks to all the communist parties and other progressive forces around the world who sent us messages of their friendship and solidarity, saluting the 100 years of the PCP.»

Tribute to the heroes fallen in the struggle

«In the long fascist night / they were bearers of the flame of freedom / and for freedom they died / in the Tarrafal Concentration Camp.»

PCP condemns US bombing of Syria

The PCP strongly condemns the bombing of Syria, along the border with Iraq, carried out by the US during the night of February 25 to 26 and which constitutes a new act of aggression that is part of the war policy that the USA promotes for decades in the Middle East.

About the Recovery and Resilience Plan and the options that the country needs

The so-called Recovery and Resilience Plan - RRP, now under public consultation, has been presented by the PS government as being the main response to the country's problems. The Prime Minister even calls it a “bazooka”. But the truth is that the RPP with the approximately 16 billion euros it makes available and the options it makes is far from answering the country's needs and, in many respects, sidesteps national priorities.

With the PCP - Better pensions, better health, decent living conditions

Greetings to all of you for your presence and for the contributions you brought to this Public Session that discussed, in these times of epidemic, the worsening problems faced by our retirees and pensioners and the importance that the struggle has in their lives for the valorisation of their pensions and retirement and for the implementation of sanitary and health protection measures, which must be guaranteed and enhanced in this difficult situation we live in.

With regard to pensions and retirement, our commitment and our initiative aimed at valorising them are well known.

Right to vaccination, health imperative - The strategy that is needed

Besides other important and urgent measures, one of the most effective ways of combating the Covid-19 pandemic is to implement the vaccination process as quickly as possible in every country, all over the world.

Vaccination is essential to save lives. It is also essential to resume economic and social activity more quickly and fully, without the current heavy constraints and the resulting losses.

90th Anniversary of «Avante!», the newspaper that gives voice to the organised struggle of the workers and popular masses

Today we mark the ninetieth anniversary of the Avante!, the central organ of the Portuguese Communist Party, which is proud to say that, in its long life, it fulfilled its role as a class-oriented newspaper, an irreplaceable weapon of the PCP to serve the workers and the people, without ever allowing itself to be subjected or intimidated by the terror of the fascist dictatorship or by the many attempts at silencing by the dominant ideology and powers.

PCP celebrates Centennial linked to the life of the country and the aspirations of the workers and people

On the day that marks its Centennial, the PCP promotes a wide range of initiatives throughout the country, centred on the problems of the workers, the people and the country under the motto: 100 years 100 actions - Freedom Democracy Socialism - For rights, improvement of the living conditions and social progress. Against exploitation and impoverishment.

The PCP takes to the streets the demand for a policy that responds to the problems, aspirations and demands of the workers and Portuguese people.
