The Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) expressed its agreement about the deployment of the Republican National Guard (GNR) forces in East-Timor, requested by its democratic institutions: the Government, the President of the Republic, and its National Parliament.

Organised by the Portuguese Communist Party, an International Meeting was held in Lisbon, on 3-4 March under the slogan “Europe and the European Union, realities, struggle experiences and new opportunities for change” in which participated 23 communist parties and other left wing forces from European countries.

On the worsening of international tension

The extraordinary dimension achieved by the so-called “cartoon crisis”, besides its more immediate motivations and visible actors, is inseparable from the general offensive of big capital and imperialism, an offensive which has lately had new and severe expressions to which the PCP considers necessary to draw the attention of the workers and the Portuguese people.
