About the result of the referendum on the Lisbon Treaty in Ireland

The Lisbon treaty is dead. The NO victory in Ireland has thrown into the dust bin of history a Treaty project that was truly a political fraud, as it tried to resuscitate the so-called European constitution which had been rejected by the people of France and the Netherlands.

The NO victory holds great importance and political meaning.

250.000 workers against the attacks on labor legislation

250.000 workers, called by CGTP/IN (General Confederation of the Portuguese Workers), demonstrated yesterday in Lisbon against the changes in the labor legislation and demanded an alternative policy to face the increasing difficulties that are being felt in the country.

Statement of Communist and Workers’ Parties from EU countries about the 5th EU-LAC summit

The objectives of the European Union have nothing to do with combating poverty and social inequalities, or with promoting the environment – benevolent policies as they claim. It seeks to open up the economies of these countries to exploitation, demanding the privatisation of state industries and natural resources, even water, for the benefit of the monopoly capital.

23 Communist and Workers’ Parties from 20 EU member-states and accession countries participated in the meeting held in Athens on 14-15 March 2008 with the theme, "The New Treaty, developments in the EU and peoples’ struggle." Some parties that could not attend sent messages of support to this initiative.
