The PCP strongly denounces and condemns the escalation of the US aggression against Cuba, which constitutes an affront to the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
The PCP considers the executive order issued by US President Donald Trump to be extremely serious which, under the pretext of a list of falsehoods and in a hypocritical manner, proclaims that the policies, practices and actions of the Cuban Government constitute an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to US “national security and foreign policy” and unilaterally and extraterritorially imposes coercive measures on countries that sell or supply, directly or indirectly, oil to Cuba, with the aim of establishing an oil blockade to hit Cuba's economy and the living conditions of its people even harder.
This decision adds to the cruel, criminal and illegal blockade that the US has been imposing on Cuba for decades, to Cuba's inclusion on the illegitimate and arbitrary US list of so-called “state sponsors of terrorism”, and to the systematic interference and subversion that the US continues to wage against the sovereignty and rights of the Cuban people.
The stepping up of US aggression against Cuba is part of a broader plan by US imperialism to impose its domination in Latin America and the Caribbean, which includes the military aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the abduction of its President, Nicolás Maduro, as well as threats against Colombia, Mexico and other countries in the region.
It is not Cuba, but the United States that has been practising a policy of interference, aggression and state terrorism against other countries. It is not Cuba, but the US that poses the most serious threat to Peace and security for the peoples of Latin America, the Caribbean and other regions of the world. It is not Cuba, but the US that disrespects and violates human rights and the rights of peoples and their sovereignty.
The increase of US aggression against the sovereignty and rights of the Cuban people also represents a growing threat to the sovereignty and rights of other Latin American peoples and peoples around the world.
Valuing the determination of the Cuban people and of the Communist Party of Cuba, who for decades have courageously stood up to imperialist interference and aggression, the PCP calls for solidarity with Cuba and its socialist Revolution, demanding respect for the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Cuba and the rights of its people, including the right to sovereignly decide their own path, free from external interference, pressure and threats.
