In this election campaign, in this fight for everything that matters in the lives of the workers, the People, the youth and the Country, we affirmed the CDU as a force of courage, seriousness and confidence.
We salute the activists of the CDU, and in particular our fellow coalition members the Ecologist Party “The Greens” and the Intervenção Democrática Association.
We salute the communists, ecologists, women and men with no party affiliation who made this election campaign a remarkable journey in defence of a new course for the country.
We salute the youth, to whom we addressed ourselves in a particular way throughout the campaign and who, with their participation, gave strength, joy and creativity to an election campaign based on denouncing the problems and of solutions for the Country.
We salute all those who voted for the CDU, particularly those who did so for the first time.
The CDU's result, marking resistance within a particularly demanding context and in the face of multiple predictions, reflects neither the expression of support and recognition that the campaign showed, nor what the Country's situation demanded of a stronger CDU to respond to the problems, to confront reactionary forces and projects.
This is a result inseparable from objective and subjective factors, in which the dissemination of factors of prejudice, the recurrent falsification and downgrading of the CDU and its proposals, and an electoral choice dictated not by the response to each person's problems, but conditioned by alleged disputes over electoral majorities, all weighed heavily.
As we said throughout the campaign, every vote for the CDU counts.
No vote for the CDU will be wasted.
No vote for the CDU will be betrayed.
Every vote for the CDU is an expression of commitment to a different course in national political life, a vote demanding a break with right-wing politics and that will count towards courageously confronting the right and far right and the interests of capital.
The workers and the people can count on the initiative and intervention of the CDU to provide answers and solutions to the problems that are there.
Wages, pensions, healthcare, housing, education, the rights of children and parents, women, youth, the environment, nature conservation, solidarity with Palestine.
You can count on the CDU to defend freedom, democracy, the Constitution and Peace.
The composition of the Assembly of the Republic has evolved negatively, marked by the growth of AD (PSD and CDS), Chega and IL.
The result obtained by AD was achieved by instrumentalising the idea of “government stability” through a policy that daily promotes instability in everyone's lives, through the illegitimate use and abuse of the actions of a caretaker government, through the victimisation it sought to foster, combined with the lack of credibility of the PS, which not only failed to adopt a different approach and solutions to those of AD, but was also open to make its government viable beforehand.
The result obtained by Chega is inseparable from the means - financial, media and others - that capital has put at the service of promoting a reactionary and anti-democratic framework of values, favouring forces that feed demagoguery, lies, manipulation and hatred, all of which were vastly clear in this campaign.
The resulting institutional framework, with a majority of PSD, CDS, Chega and IL in the Assembly, regardless of the arrangements that will be made between these forces, holds the danger of intensifying the retrograde, neoliberal and anti-social agenda.
This is the time for everyone to say clearly and courageously, without tactics, what they stand for and what they aim.
In view of these electoral results, which we do not underestimate, this is not the time to conform or agree with the right and its reactionary, retrograde and anti-democratic conceptions. This is not the time to join hands with the right, to support its anti-popular policies.
This is the time to fight the policy of low wages and pensions, attacks on workers' rights and public services, denial of the right to housing, privatisations and other horse trading, further injustice and favours for capital, national submission and the arms race.
This is the time for democrats and patriots to assume the path of resistance and struggle against regression and open up the path that Portugal needs.
Those who think that neoliberalism and reactionary action are going to impose themselves, that the struggle of the workers and the people is going to allow their rights to be wiped out and the Country to go backwards, are mistaken.
The situation highlights even more the decisive role of the workers' and people's struggle, the need for joint action by democrats and patriots, the importance of the CDU and its MPs to confront the right-wing policy and the government that will implement it, to confront reactionary projects and the subversive amendment of the Constitution of the Republic.
The workers, the people and the youth count on the PCP and the CDU, and we count on and trust their strength, capacity and struggle.
