The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is one of the main architects of the criminal policy of confrontation, aggression and war promoted by US imperialism, which undermines the sovereignty and rights of peoples and openly flouts the principles of the UN Charter and international law.
This policy, currently pursued by the Trump Administration, aims to impose US domination on a global scale and is manifested, among other serious aspects, in its support for Israel’s policy of occupation, colonisation and genocide against the Palestinian people, and of the military aggression against Lebanon and other countries in the Middle East; in the military aggression against Iran; in the escalation of aggression against Cuba; in the military aggression against Venezuela and the abduction of its President; in the warmongering escalation by NATO and the European Union aimed at confrontation with Russia, which includes the prolongation of the war in Ukraine; and in the promotion of interference, blackmail, coercion and destabilisation throughout the world.
A warmongering policy which, counting on the alignment and subordination of the G7, NATO and the EU, is responsible for the colossal increase in military spending and for an escalation of the arms race and war, which poses the greatest threat to world peace and security.
The same policy that heightens exploitation, injustices and social inequalities; attacks democratic freedoms and rights; fosters reactionary, obscurantist and fascistic conceptions and forces; and attacks and seeks to criminalise those who legitimately defend freedom, rights, justice, equality, peace and solidarity
Marco Rubio’s visit to Portugal reveals the PSD/CDS Government’s shameful alignment with and subservience to the US – an example of which was the recent authorisation to use Lajes Air Base as a platform for military aggression against Iran – and can only represent an even greater commitment and involvement of the Portuguese Government with the aims of domination and the warmongering strategy of US imperialism.
Condemning the US Secretary of State’s visit and rejecting Portugal’s submission to and involvement in imperialism’s policy of confrontation, aggression and war, the PCP calls for the continuation and expansion of solidarity with the peoples who are resisting the threats, interference and aggression of imperialism; for the struggle for rights and better living conditions; against militarism and war; for the dissolution of NATO; for the rejection of the militarisation of the EU; for the establishment of a system of collective security in Europe; and for world peace.
In defence of peace, sovereignty and rights, Marco Rubio is not welcome in Portugal!
