A delegation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), headed by Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary of the CPI(M), and which also included Harsev Bains, visited Portugal, from Spetmeber 18 to 20, at the invitation of the Portuguese Communist Party.

During its stay, the CPI(M) delegation met with a PCP delegation, headed by Jerónimo de Sousa, PCP General Secretary, and which included Pedro Guerreiro, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee and head of the International Department and ngelo Alves, member of the Political Committee of the PCP’s Central Committee. It also had meetings with the International Departament and with the «Avante!» newspaper, to which it gave an interview.

The meetings, which were held in a fraternal spirit, allowed for a broad-ranging exchange of information on the situation in both countries and regions, as well as on several aspects of the international situation. A convergence and proximity of positions between both Parties was registered.

The PCP took the occasion to reaffirm its solidarity with the CPI(M), the Indian Communists and other democrats, who are confronted with a fascistic violence unleashed by nationalist and reactionary forces.

The bilateral relations between the two Parties were valued, and the desire to continue strengthening them was stressed, as was the desire to continue contributing to strengthen the world Communist and revolutionary movement and its unity, around joint or convergent action, thereby also contributing to strengthen a broad anti-imperialist movement.
