Members of the European Parliament sign letter denouncing the US intention to prevent Palestinian representatives from participating in the UN General Assembly Session

João Oliveira, Member of the European Parliament for the PCP, has issued an open letter for other MEPs to sign, urging the European Union institutions to take effective measures to ensure access and full participation of representatives of the Palestinian people in the proceedings of the United Nations General Assembly, which will place this month in New York.

The letter, addressed to the presidents of the Council, the European Commission and the European Parliament, denounces the US Administration's intention to suspend the issuance or revoke visas for representatives of the Palestinian Authority and the Palestine Liberation Organisation, seeking to prevent their participation in the 80th. Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The letter considers that this intention of the US, in addition to being outrageous, is illegal under the terms of the international obligations assumed by the US and the legal framework of the United Nations, namely within the scope of the “Agreement between the United Nations and the United States of America concerning the Headquarters of the United Nations”.
