“Auschwitz and the Donbass war”

Translated "Avante!" article by Luis Carapinha, Member of the International Department

When the Soviet troops liberated Auschwitz ,on January 27th , 1945, they were confronted with a Dantesque sight. Men, hardened by the horrors of history’s most lethal and atrocious war – the 1st Red Army Ukrainian Front’s soldiers and officers – witnessed the unparallel monstrosity, found amid the largest Nazi- Fascism extermination complex. Soviet army commandants and political commissaries had been executed in those premises, in July 1941, having been some of the first victims of the Holocaust terror and death system. Seven decades upon Auschwitz’s liberation and in the year the world celebrates the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazi-Fascism, former prisoners and alive liberators are faced with the crude civil war reality, in neighbour Ukraine.

Many pose the question of how was it possible to come to this situation. War had returned to Europe during the 90’s, during the Yugoslavia destruction process, performed and promoted by criminal forces, openly terrorists. And by the very same hands, by the great capital zest of interests and according with the imperialism militarist agenda, at an exacerbated time, of the structural crisis deepening. Currently, a dusty range of reactionary forces, including, assumedly, Neo-Nazis and oligarchy obscure figures and leaders, in a clear nationalist pro-fascist drift, assume an important role in the events, and which, since the Maidan coup, a year ago, led to an aggression war within the Donbass and threatened to dive Ukraine into the abyss of dismantlement and a generalized fratricide conflict.

The Nazi-Fascism mystification and revision of its history and whitening campaign, currently produces some results. Bush, in May 2005, charged against Yalta, preaching a “new freedom international order”. Bandera’s official cult, in Kiev, is a tribute to the nodal objective of the weakening and subordination of Russia, a priority element of the Washington hegemonic strategy. As a result of the Ukraine example, the ideological barrier and the coming to terms with the revolutionary movement and the ruptures and emancipating advances, a XXth century legacy, is now converted into a tangible force. As the genocide daily crimes perpetrated by the Kiev junta against the Donbas Ukrainian population, the UCP’s persecution does not cease and the rage in order to hinder the historical truth and operate a total value inversion. In Poland, the International Holocaust Memory Day celebrations, coincident with the concentration camp liberation date, did not escape from the manipulating wave. Schetyna, the Foreign Affairs Minister, in a delirious speech, stated that Auschwitz was “liberated by the Ukrainians”, by mixing the geographical designation of the Soviet corps, to which belonged the liberating unities, with its (multi)national composition, by degrading the memory of 600 thousand Soviet soldiers, fallen during Poland’s liberation. A few days before, Iatseniúk, the Ukrainian prime -minister, had been more explicit on stating that ” the Russian aggression in Ukraine is an attack against the world’s and Europe’s order. These events clearly remind the Soviet invasion in Ukraine and Germany”[in 1945]. These are the people the USA, EU and NATO brought to power in Kiev, a year ago. Without their agreement, no war ought to have taken place. Disturbed by the Kiev’s power sustainability, and the outcome of the Donbas operation, Merkel and Hollande lift their wings their backs away. Obama blackmails, by commissioning “lethal” material. War must be stopped. But no effective peace ought to take place without removing the conflict’s deep causes and drive away the coup, titter forces, that dilacerate Ukraine.
