Here we present our commitment for the elections to the European Parliament. We do so with clarity and audacity and, as always, without illusions or half-truths. Here are the proposals that we present to the people and the workers, what are the ideas and objectives that serve them, particularly at a time when so many new challenges arise. This is the moment in which the importance of having more MPs in the European Parliament is greater, providing a distinctive and courageous voice, who do not evade difficulties, and stand up to the great powers and the lords of money.

The Political Committee of the Central Committee of the PCP underlines the strong significance and dimension of the popular celebration of the 50th.anniversary of the Revolution, this immense 25th. of April that all over the country, and beyond its borders, filled squares, avenues and streets – with an unforgettable dimension in the heart of the cities of Lisbon and Porto – affirming April, its values and topicality.

A warm greeting to everyone present here in this combative initiative, promoted in the framework of the Confederal Group of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) – The Left in the European Parliament, to which the PCP’s MPs belong. I would like to particularly welcome the presence of comrades Bert de Belder, from the Workers’ Party of Belgium, Vera Polycarpou, from AKEL, Eduard Navarro, from the Communist Party of Spain and Cyril Benoit, from the French Communist Party.

The Central Committee of the Portuguese Communist Party, meeting on April 15, 2024, analysed the political situation resulting from the recent legislative elections, addressed the preparation of the elections for the European Parliament and the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira and deepened the analysis about the country's situation and the responses that are required. The Central Committee of the PCP called the XXII Congress for December 13, 14 and 15, 2024.
