International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties to be held in Lisbon on November 10, 11 and 12.
Press Release

enc-internac-2006gd As previously announced, an International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties, hosted by the Portuguese Communist Party, will be held in Lisbon this coming November 10, 11 and 12. This International Meeting, which will gather communist and workers’ parties from all over the world, takes place following other international meetings that have been held since 1998 in Athens, Greece.

After May this year, and following several preparatory meetings in which the PCP participated as the host party, the International Meeting entered a decisive stage of its preparation.

The International Meetings of Communist and Workers’ Parties are proving to be internationally one of the most important areas of exchange of experiences and information on the situation and the struggles taking place in each country; of discussion of key issues concerning the evolution of the international situation and the struggle of the workers and the peoples; of considering common initiatives among the participating Parties and of affirmation of internationalist solidarity, chiefly with the peoples that are today carrying out courageous processes of struggle against imperialist oppression and war.

Every year a specific subject involving the international situation is examined and this year the International Meeting proposes to examine the theme “Dangers and potentialities of the international situation, imperialism’s strategy and the energy issue. The struggle of the peoples and the Latin American experience, the prospect of socialism.”

A week and a half before its realization, and having arrived at the final stage of its preparation, around 70 (seventy) Parties have already confirmed their presence in this International Meeting. We would like to emphasize the confirmed presence of personalities of the international communist movement such as Blade Ndzimande, General-Secretary of the Communist Party of South Africa; Aleka Papariga, General-Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece or Guenadi Ziugannov, President of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, among many other General-Secretaries and top leaders of Communist and Workers’ Parties from all over the world like Fernando Esteñoz, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and head of  its international relations department.

Jerónimo de Sousa, General-Secretary pf the PCP will attend the International Meeting and is expected to make an opening speech greeting all participants. The General-Secretary of the PCP will also participate in a Rally on November 11, in the town of Almada, together with all the delegations of the Communist and Workers’ Parties participating in the International Meeting.

Further information on the International Meeting will be distributed during the next week through press releases.
