PCP condemns US support for the occupation of Western Sahara

The PCP strongly condemns the support of the United States Administration to the occupation of Western Sahara by the Kingdom of Morocco, in return for it to normalise relations with Israel, which for decades has illegally occupied Palestinian territories and oppresses the Palestinian people.

The unacceptable recognition of the occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco, now declared by the Trump Administration, is part of the US policy of consistent affront against the sovereignty and rights of peoples and, consequently, against international law.

On the European Council of December 10 and 11

Statement by Sandra Pereira, PCP’s MP in the European Parliament

On the European Council of December 10 and 11

As expected, the European Council approved the new Multiannual Financial Framework, as well as the “Recovery Fund”.

The difficulties and stalemates surrounding the approval of these financial instruments, and the way in which they were overcome, confirm contradictions and problems indissociable from the nature of the European Union, which are far from being resolved and which go beyond obvious divergences with Hungary and Poland.

Persistence and determination to find concrete solutions for the workers and people

The PCP intervened in the debate on this Budget denouncing the profound shortcomings and limitations of the proposal that the Government presented more than a month ago. As we stressed from the beginning, both the Budget Proposal and the Government's options, which lie beyond the Budget, do not respond to the needs of the country. But we have also always said that, given the seriousness of the national situation, we would not give up fighting the battle to the end to find solutions.

On the evaluation and final vote on the State Budget for 2021

The path of analysis and intervention that the PCP has had on the State Budget is public knowledge. As we have emphasised from the beginning, both the Budget Proposal and the Government's options that go beyond the Budget do not correspond to the demands facing the country.

On the start of voting on the specialty of the 2021 State Budget proposal

Statement by João Oliveira, President of the Parliamentary Group and member of the Political Committee of the Central Committee

On the start of voting on the specialty of the 2021 State Budget proposal

The vote on the specialty of the State Budget proposal for next year starts this afternoon. We are all aware of the situation we are experiencing.

The situation is indeed exceptional and needs an exceptional response. It was in this sense that the PCP presented more than 300 proposals covering practically all areas of national life.

Problems that are already present and that are likely to be heightened must have a serious answer. There are options that the Government has to make. In and outside the Budget, otherwise the way is open for the situation to worsen.

What is the rationale of seeking to guarantee health by instilling fear and insecurity in people?

Speech by , Debate on the request for authorization to renew the state of emergency

What is the rationale of seeking to guarantee health by instilling fear and insecurity in people?

It is necessary to relieve the pressure that is placed on the NHS, avoid its rupture and create conditions to provide for the other health care situations. The restrictive measures that have been imposed under the state of emergency do not allow the necessary stopping of the epidemic and are simultaneously throwing the country into an unsustainable economic and social situation.

We said fifteen days ago that the declaration of a State of Emergency should be rejected.
