The Constitution is not the past, it is the affirmation of rights for the future

The Constitution is not the past, it is the affirmation of rights for the future

The Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, which Álvaro Cunhal, upon its approval, affirmed to be the “testimony of history,” the “faithful portrait of the Revolution,” was an important victory for our people, for the democratic forces and the military of April, enshrining in fundamental law the achievements and values of the April 25th. Revolution, which are still deeply felt today.

A decent life is a right, and the youth are fighting for it.

A decent life is a right, and the youth are fighting for it.

Today, as yesterday, the youth take the destiny of their lives into their own hands, they do not conform, nor do they resign themselves, and with the irreverence and creativity that characterises the youth, they fight.

The Government is more interested in protecting profits than protecting people's lives

The Government is more interested in protecting profits than protecting people's lives

In a Country where propaganda clashes with the real difficulties of life of the majority, where the cost of living is rising and some are obtaining record profits, where wages and pensions are being stretched to make ends meet, where public services are being dismantled, at the outset with the National Health Service (NHS), where access to housing is denied and the present and future of new generations are being mortgaged, it is this Country that PSD, CDS, Chega, and Iniciativa Liberal are further submitting to the US and Israel and dragging Portugal into the war against Iran.

On the conclusions of the European Council meeting of March 19 - Complicity with the military aggression against Iran, inaction in the face of rising prices and cost of living, favouring the interests of multinational corporations

On the conclusions of the European Council meeting of March 19 - Complicity with the military aggression against Iran, inaction in the face of rising prices and cost of living, favouring the interests of multinational corporations

The conclusions of the European Council meeting of March 19 reveal, once again, the profound contradiction between the proclaimed discourse and the effective practice of the European Union (EU), its alignment and complicity with the US, its disregard for the deteriorating living conditions of workers and peoples, and its policy choices in favour of the interests of economic and financial groups and multinational corporations.

The proposals in the Labour Package reek of stale ideas against workers' rights

3 December 2025

The ongoing mobilisation for the General Strike, with the support of a wide range of sectors, is already a powerful demonstration of rejection of the Labour Package that the Government and the rest of the right-wing, serving the interests of employers, intend to impose, in a serious setback for rights and an unacceptable worsening of the exploitation of workers. The more the Minister of Labour attacks the workers, the clearer the intentions of the Government and employers become, the more unity grows, and the conviction increases that this struggle is just.

The PCP stands in solidarity with the Communist Party of Poland

2 December 2025

Following the new attempt to ban the Communist Party of Poland, through a motion presented by the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, to the Constitutional Court, the PCP sent a letter to the Embassy of Poland in Portugal expressing its profound indignation and repudiation of this unacceptable initiative. The adoption of this initiative will represent a serious attack on democratic rights and freedoms in Poland, based on an unacceptable and dangerous operation of historical revisionism, which aims to criminalise the communist ideal and ban the actions of Polish communists.

On the situation in Guinea-Bissau

28 November 2025

The PCP strongly condemns the actions carried out by a self-proclaimed “military high command” that have undermined the constitutional order of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau and the functioning of its institutions, preventing the announcement of the results of the legislative and presidential elections scheduled for 27 November, invading the campaign headquarters of presidential candidate Fernando Dias da Costa and seizing Domingos Simões Pereira, President of the People’s National Assembly of Guinea-Bissau and leader of the PAIGC, as well as other political leaders

Concert «Camões: cultural expression of a changing world»

Camões: The poet of the people in a changing world

22 November 2025

I would like to thank everyone for attending this concert, which is part of the PCP's programme of celebrations of the 500th. Anniversary of the birth of Luís de Camões. Allow me to extend a special greeting to the artists, cultural workers and everyone who worked hard to make this initiative a reality.

No to US military aggression against Venezuela - For Peace in Latin America and the Caribbean

19 November 2025

The PCP condemns the serious and unacceptable warmongering actions and threats of military aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela by the Trump administration which, under false pretexts, aim to impose the domination and plundering of this country's huge resources by US imperialism

XIII Congress of the JCP - Portuguese Communist Youth “In our hands the new world - Organise. Unite. Fight”

16 November 2025

Dear comrades, guests, representatives of national youth structures and organisations, international delegations here present from various parts of the world, to all of you, on behalf of the Portuguese Communist Party, I extend a warm greeting. Commemorative session marking the 112th. anniversary of Álvaro Cunhal's birth

Commemorative session marking the 112th. anniversary of Álvaro Cunhal's birth “The April Revolution. Profound transformations and resistance against the counter-revolutionary process”

10 November 2025

A warm welcome to everyone attending this session, where we mark the 112th. anniversary of the birth of comrade Álvaro Cunhal. This unique figure in contemporary Portugal, a fighter for freedom and democracy and a beacon in the struggle for social and human emancipation in our Country and around the world. Álvaro Cunhal dedicated his entire life, as leader of the PCP and anti-fascist fighter, to the cause of the workers, his people and his Country.

National March of CGTP-IN against the Labour Package

11 November 2025

The PCP's opposition to this government bill is already well known, but how did you view the Prime Minister's statement about the possibility of a general strike, calling on trade unions to act responsibly and saying that workers' interests should not be captured by party interests?

PCP presents last package of proposals for amendments to the State Budget for 2026

7 November 2025

On this last day for submitting proposals for amendments to the State Budget for 2026, there is a preliminary issue that needs to be addressed, lest it be forgotten once again. The State Budget for 2026 cannot ignore the tragedy of the forest fires that ravaged the country this summer. The diagnosis has been made, and what needs to be done to prevent and combat fires has been clearly identified. This requires investment in forests that cannot continue to be postponed as it has been until now.

PCP presents 15 proposals for fiscal justice and the defence of national interests

5 November 2025

The Country has the means and resources that are essential to strengthen public services. Fiscal justice is therefore necessary to reduce taxes on low and middle incomes and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, and tax the profits of large economic groups and multinationals. A policy is needed to tackle the scandalous favouritism shown to economic groups. In the scope of the discussion of the State Budget for 2026, the PCP today submitted 15 proposals that demonstrate that fiscal justice and combating tax evasion are possible.
