Thousands on the streets of Lisbon, Oporto and Braga

28th November
Thousands participated in the marches and concentrations promoted by CGTP-IN in Lisbon, Oporto and Braga, on November 28, demanding compliance with the Constitution, a change of policy and the answer to the claims, problems and aspirations of the workers and the people.

One of the objectives that led CGTP-IN - great trade union central of the Portuguese workers - to call the action of clarification and mobilisation on November 24 and the day of struggle on November 28, has already been achieved: the accomplishment of the defeat and removal of the PSD/CDS government. Once this objective achieved, continues the struggle for the materialization of the two other defined objectives: compliance with the Constitution and a change of policy.

To this effect, CGTP-IN points the way of the intensification of the claiming action and of the collective bargaining in the workplace, the struggle for restoration of wages and rights, a political change, including, among other objectives: the repeal of the grievous norms of the labour legislation (highlighting the end of the regime of prescription of collective agreements); the full restoration of wages and pensions; the updating of the national minimum wage; the replacement of the 35-hour week in Public Administration, as well as of the holidays, vacations and other stolen rights; the improvement of the social protection of workers and families; the reversal of the privatisation of fundamental sectors and companies for the development of the country, and the defence of rights and jobs; the valorisation and defence of Public School, the National Health Service and public, universal and solidary Social Security; the need for a new policy for the country which, by placing the workers and the people at the centre of the reference for the development of the economy, affirms rights, achievements, values and ideals of April, which the Constitution of the Republic enshrines.

As always, it is the struggle of the workers, pensioners and retirees, of the youth, the women and all other sectors and layers affected by the right-wing policy, which will be the determining factor for the urgent and pressing change that is needed.
