"Solidarity with Venezuela"

Translated "Avante!" article by Angelo Alves, Member of the Political Committee of the CC and of the International Department

Twelve years have passed upon the coup d’état that aimed to throw down Hugo Chavez in 2002, and hamper the progressive transformation process in Venezuela. Not contented with the questioning on its absolute control over the state, Venezuela’s justice, economy, resources and economic and international relations, confronted with the very strong popular support towards the new government and the Bolivarian Constitution, approved in 1999, the great Venezuela capital and its political valets used the coup strategy in order to achieve what they had not been able in both the polls and the constitutional process. That was the time of the oil blockade, economic sabotage, conspirators among the army forces, orchestrated by Washington, from provoking unto violence, media campaigns against Chavez, the “authoritarian”.

The civic-military alliance and the popular unity, round the revolution forces, defeated that coup. During these last twelve years, the Bolivarian Revolution achieved important conquests and gave an important contribution to prove Latin America is one of the major world imperialism resistance poles. Advances, sustained within a large popular participation and legitimated by 19 electoral processes, including the two latter ones, which took place upon Comandante Hugo Chavez’ passing away.

The municipal elections, December last, had been an example of the used methods by reaction and imperialism are to perform in order to try and break down the people’s unity, profiting Hugo Chavez death to pass on to the counter-offensive. The great bourgeoisie used, at that stage, its great economic power and the umbilical link it holds with the North-American imperialism in order to blockade Venezuela’s economy, increase speculation and corruption processes and therefore, provoke violence on the elections’ eve.

In answer to these manoeuvres, the Venezuela government approved a number of laws on the state’s role reinforcement, regarding the economy, breaking up links with a renter economic chain, speculative, corrupt, generator of violence and criminality, inherited from the previous regime. Nicolas Maduro’s government, legitimated by two strong electoral victories, launched Venezuela’s society “pacification plan” and approved another number of measures which deepen the Venezuela progressive character towards a socialist guideline and harasses, more and more, the Venezuelan economic and Fascist reactionary power mobs.

The violence and vandalism acts , perpetrated by neo-Fascist groups, last week, are but another answer of the great capital towards the legitimate government’s action. Genuine attempts against the constitutional order and democracy, perpetrated, in great measure by armed groups, belonging to the most radical Venezuela right-wing and externally financed. Once again, one assists to economic and energetic sabotage acts, USA’s direct interference attempts, Colombian pro-military infiltration in Venezuelan territory and a world-wide media campaign, with the aim of passing on the idea of an almost “dictatorship”.

But what is really in progress, is nothing more than a new state coup attempt. Performed by sinister and corrupt figures as Leopoldo López and developed in close articulation with the North-American administration. But both the Venezuelan government and people, together with the other Latin-American states and their integration structures, had prompt reactions. The class struggle is at its most within Venezuela, proving the importance and the example of this process. Solidarity with the people and its legitimate government is a commitment of all those who defend peace, democracy and peoples’ sovereignty.
