PCP in solidarity with the Communist Party of Poland

The Secretariat of the Central Committee of the PCP addressed a letter to the Polish Embassy in Portugal where it expressed its repudiation «in the face of the continued anti-communist campaign in Poland and the repeated facts of political and judicial persecution targeting leaders and activists of the Communist Party of Poland, as well as other Polish anti-fascists and democrats”, on the eve of the new trial of members of the editorial council of the newspaper “Brzask”, of the Communist Party of Poland.

The PCP reiterated a “strong denunciation of the amendments to the Polish penal code made in 2019, namely to article 256, promoting the most reactionary conceptions and falsifications in contemporary history, equating communism with fascism in an unacceptable way, and criminalizing the communist ideal and its symbols.»

The PCP also considers that “the ongoing actions constitute a serious attack on political freedom and democratic rights, all the more serious when it is the State itself that promotes forces of a neo-fascist and anti-democratic nature, as well as anti- communism and xenophobia. "

Finally, PCP's solidarity with the Communist Party of Poland and other Polish democrats is reaffirmed, and the commitment to continue to express its «strong protest in view of the attempts and campaigns to curtail the freedom and political action of communists and of all those who fight for democracy, social progress and socialism.»
