Release from the PCP Press Office

PCP celebrates Centennial linked to the life of the country and the aspirations of the workers and people

On the day that marks its Centennial, the PCP promotes a wide range of initiatives throughout the country, centred on the problems of the workers, the people and the country under the motto: 100 years 100 actions - Freedom Democracy Socialism - For rights, improvement of the living conditions and social progress. Against exploitation and impoverishment.

The PCP takes to the streets the demand for a policy that responds to the problems, aspirations and demands of the workers and Portuguese people.

A policy that: valorises work and workers; defends national production and employment; guarantees the right to education and culture; strengthens the National Health Service and public services; guarantees a decent life for the elderly and the rights of children and youth; ensures women´s equality under the law and in life; promotes a balanced environment; ensures access to justice and the fight against corruption; protects peace and cooperation; defends national sovereignty and independence; affirms the values of April and the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic.

Valorising the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, its effective compliance, and the project it entails for the development of the country, the PCP fights for the patriotic and left-wing alternative, for an advanced democracy, for socialism.

Just as in these 100 years there has been no progress, nor achievement that has not counted on the contribution, initiative and struggle of the PCP, also today and in the future the PCP is essential and decisive in the struggle for rights and for the improvement of living conditions, in advancing towards a fairer society.

In the activities of the Centennial of the PCP, which enlarge the programming and replace the rally announced for Campo Pequeno (which was considered to be inappropriate under the current conditions), health conditions will be guaranteed, giving further proof that it is possible to continue to intervene and struggle, while protecting health.

The General Secretary of the Party will speak in the initiative that takes place on March 6 in Lisbon at 3 pm in Rossio.
