Demonstration promoted by CGTP-IN «For a Europe of workers and peoples - Affirming sovereignty», Porto

On May 8, the day when the so-called European Union Social Summit was held, thousands of workers of all ages and from various parts of the country demonstrated in the city of Porto, making heard the voice that was absent at the Summit.

At the national demonstration promoted by CGTP-IN, with the motto «For a Europe of workers and peoples - Affirming sovereignty. Fighting for rights - More jobs, national production, wages, public services», the workers took to the streets denouncing low wages, precariousness and loss of rights, acute problems that currently mark the reality in Portugal and which did not find an answer at this Summit.

Denouncing the new attacks against labour and social rights, the workers affirmed their rights and demanded better wages, working hours and conditions, against precariousness, for investment in public services and increase in the National Minimum Wage.

The General Secretary of the PCP, Jerónimo de Sousa, attended and expressed PCP's solidarity with the workers' struggle.
