Meeting of the Working Group in Athens - International Meeting of Communist and Workers Parties

Press Statement of the Portuguese Communist Party

On Friday 29 of April 2011 the Working Group of the International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties came together in Athens in order to prepare the 13l International Meeting.

The PCP was represented by Angelo Alves, of the Political Commission of the C C, and Pedro Guerreiro, of the Central Committee and the International Department.

The Communist Party of Brazil, the Communist Party of Cuba, AKEL from Cyprus, the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, the Communist Party of Greece, the Lebanese Communist Party, the People's Party of Palestine, the Portuguese Communist Party, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the South African Communist Party, and the Syrian Communist Party participated in the meeting.

It was decided at the meeting that the 13n International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties to be held in Athens will take place on 9-11 December 2011 with the following theme

SOCIALISM IS THE FUTURE!

The international situation and the experience of the communists 20 years after the counterrevolution in the USSR. The tasks for the development of the class struggle in conditions of capitalist crisis, imperialist wars, of the current popular struggles and uprisings, for working class-popular rights, the strengthening of proletarian internationalism and the anti-imperialist front, for the overthrow of capitalism and the construction of socialism.
 
The Working Group discussed and made a positive assessment of the development of joint actions along the lines which were decided upon at the 12th IMCWP in South Africa. There was also a very useful exchange of views on the international developments.
 
The parties which participated, on the occasion of workers' May Day, addressed warm class greetings to the working class and workers, to all the peoples which are struggling for their rights and are fighting against the assault of capital and imperialism.
