Statement by Jerónimo de Sousa, General Secretary

May Day: This is the time of resistance and struggle

In the context of this situation that we live due to the epidemic, it becomes more important to be here with this solidary presence, a struggle that is of everyday.

Today we are witnessing this problem of the virus that can kill, that kills, and we often forget those who have their lives destroyed because they lost their jobs, their wages, lost individual and collective rights

This is a time of affirmation, with the certainty that it will not always be like this, that one day, this power of May will emerge again, inasmuch as the dramas that are experienced today certainly with our struggle, with our action, with our proposal, we will start to embark on this path of hope, of a better life in our country and, particularly, for those who work, for those who worked, also for small and medium-size entrepreneurs in a desperate situation, also for those self-employed workers who were stripped of any pay.

There is so much to do be done, namely the defence of the National Health Service.
