The «Avante!» Festival, an initiative promoted by the Portuguese Communist Party, which took place from the 4th to the 6th of September, respecting and complying with the health protection rules, was an important political-cultural initiative with great political significance.

The «Avante!» Festival was held having to face the hostility of great economic interests and the most reactionary and conservative forces, which carried out an insidious campaign of fear and lies, opening the way to fascistic hatred and using their powerful media resources of intoxication of public opinion in an attempt to make the «Avante!» Festival unfeasible.

Therefore, the «Avante!» Festival was an impressive response of capacity, organization, responsibility, courage, confidence, an affirmation of the defense and exercise of democratic life in its entirety.

Resolutely intervening with a view to solving the problems of the workers and people, the PCP does not yield to the fear that is instilled through an orchestrated panic that seeks to isolate people, break down class solidarity and social solidarity, so that workers docilely accept to shoulder sacrifices, to abdicate or accept the curtailment of their work rights and living standards, and even their freedom.

The PCP believes that it is by vigorously fighting the epidemic, as well as other diseases, obstacles and setbacks, and by continuing to live family, social and cultural life with joy and confidence, that the forces will be found to continue in the struggle for a better and fairer world. This path will only be possible if the workers and people do not allow themselves to see their rights, their demands and their struggles to be “confined” where some want them locked down.

The celebration of the «Avante!» Festival and its Closing Rally were a demonstration that the Portuguese workers and people can count on the PCP at all times, in all situations, and represented a remarkable contribution to fight fear and give hope and confidence in the struggle.

Near to its Centenary, the PCP reaffirms the validity of the communist ideal and project, its necessary, indispensable and irreplaceable role, whose 100 years of history are projected into the future.
