Khalida Jarrar, Member of The Palestinian Parliament, was arrested on the dawn of April 2, in Ramallah, by several dozens of Israeli army soldiers who entered her home in Ramallah, where she was with her husband and daughter.

Khalida Jarrar chairs the Committee on Palestinian Prisoners of the Palestinian Legislative Council and is a leader of Addameer, an organization dedicated to defend the rights and the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

The 52-year old MP, lawyer and activist for the defence of women's rights, has been prevented by Israel from travelling outside Palestine since 1998 and, despite suffering from a chronic disease, was allowed only once to travel for treatments.

On the 5th, the Israeli authorities issued an order of "administrative detention" for the next six months against MP Khalida Jarrar, who can thus remain in custody during that period, without trial or even charges. The order can meanwhile be renewed for equal periods, without any time limit.

Last August, MP Khalida Jarrar received from the Israeli authorities an order of deportation from Ramallah to Jericho. Refusing to heed it, she settled in a tent in the lobby of the Palestinian Parliament, in Ramallah, where she lived and worked until, on September 16, following an international campaign of support, the deportation order was overturned.

Israel continues to hold eighteen other Palestinian MPs, nine of whom under administrative detention, without trial or charges.

The Assembly of the Republic, meeting in plenary session,

1. Expresses its solidarity with Khalida Jarrar and the other Palestinian MPs held by Israel, demanding their immediate release;

2. Reaffirms its defence to abide and comply with the provisions of international law, including the Geneva Conventions regarding the obligations and restrictions of the occupying power.
