Joint Appeal for the 2019 elections to the European Parliament

The elections for the European Parliament find the workers and the peoples of the European Union (EU) member states facing enormous difficulties and deadlocks. A reality that is an expression of the EU's intensified exploitation and impoverishment policies.

For the respect of Venezuela’s sovereignty! End to destabilization and threats!

For the respect of Venezuela’s sovereignty! End to destabilization and threats!

PCP criticizes the Portuguese Government’s decision to go unrepresented in the swearing-in ceremony of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and considers that this attitude of national capitulation to the European Union, part of an escalation of destabilization and aggression against Venezuela, opposed the defence of Portugal’s interests, and those of the Portuguese people and the Portuguese community in Venezuela.

20 years after, freeing the Country from the submission to the Euro, affirming national sovereignty

Statement by Ângelo Alves, Member of the Political Commission of the Central Committee, Lisbon, Press Conference

20 years after, freeing the Country from the submission to the Euro, affirming national sovereignty

The Euro has completed 20 years of existence. The official proclamations of the European Union repeat mechanically, dogmatically and baselessly, the idea of 'success'. A serious and responsible review of the Euro contradicts this propaganda and agrees with all those who, like PCP, from the beginning, denounced its nature and objectives, and alerted towards the consequences of joining the Euro.

10 years since Israel’s aggression against Gaza, PCP calls for solidarity with the Palestinian people

1. Today marks the tenth anniversary of Israel's unleashing of the criminal war against the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip known as “Operation Cast Lead”. During three weeks, Israel indiscriminately bombed the Palestinian population beleaguered by siege - even denied the right to flee from the Israeli bombings - causing around 1,300 deaths, including 400 women and children.

At the request of several media about the action that took place today [December 21], the PCP makes public:

The PCP considers that, regardless of the promoters, the concealment of the reactionary aims, the demagogically invoked issues, there is a huge contrast between an artificial media promotion in a seldom seen extent and the scarce participation that took place (only a few hundred people in the whole country). This reflects a clear distancing and rejection by the workers and the Portuguese people of this action and its obscure intentions.

Portugal and the European Union - Breaking dependencies, defending sovereignty, building another Europe

Speech by Jerónimo de Sousa, General Secretary, Lisboa, Round Table «Portugal and the European Union - Breaking dependencies, defending sovereignty, building another Europe»

Portugal and the European Union - Breaking dependencies, defending sovereignty, building another Europe

I would like to thank all the guests who accepted our invitation to share with us valuable contributions to PCP’s reflection and proposal.
This reflection and the mobilisation of wills to open new avenues for Portugal and for Europe is all the more important when the general framework is that of a growing and almost absolute unsustainability of the situation brought about by the capitalist integration process of the European Union and the policies and ideological matrix that characterises it.

Statement by João Ferreira, Member of the European Parliament and of the Central Committee of PCP, Lisboa, Press Conference

On the European Council of December 13th and 14th

While confirming deadlocks and contradictions that mark the present situation of profound and protracted crisis of the European Union, the discussions, decisions and directions indicated by the European Council continue the deepening neoliberalism, militarism and federalism of the EU and contradict the interests of workers, people and the Country, and the other peoples of Europe.
