"The urgency of the struggle for peace"

Translated "Avante!" article by Rui Paz, Collaborator of the PCP International Department

During the last days of the year that ended, the USA made public the transaction of 84 combat planes of type F-15, to Saudi Arabia. The contract between Washington and Riad reaches an amount of 30 thousand million dollars ( 23,2 thousand million Euro). A few days after, the announcement of an anti-missile systems and radar supply to the United Arab Emirates, of 3,48 thousand million dollars ( 2,7 million Euro) followed. Barack Obama, the Nobel Peace Prize, after proving his warrior capacities identical as his predecessor’s, the republican Georges Bush, in Libya and Pakistan, has been revealing himself as an major war material trader, mainly within explosive zones, where, at each moment, conflicts of unpredictable consequences might blow up. But, at the current moment, of the capitalist system crisis accelerated aggravation, the strongest world imperialist power’s leader shows, most of all, to be preparing for all the type of outcomes for the crisis, namely the launching of a generalized military conflict.

In his statement on the “ Arab Spring”, (in 2011.05.19), Obama tried to conceal the USA’s monopolist prey objectives within the Middle East and in North Africa, by using numerous references to “democracy”. He never mentioned the USA’s interest in the region peoples “oil”, but instead, in “ religious freedom”, “the right of elected governments”, “ freedom of opinion”, being in “ Bagdad, Damascus, Sana or Teheran”. Obama did not succeed in explaining the reasons which made the USA support Mubarak’s dictatorship, for 30 years, nor never made a reference on the despotic confessional and political situation of his great trusted Arab allies, as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Kuwait. For Washington and his president, democracy is visibly measured in oil barrels. The more the Gulf’s absolute monarchies place the black gold at the USA’s companies disposal and help the USA and the Pentagon to keep up its hegemony and control over the world’s major energetic reserves, or make the latter states become branch offices of ExxonMobil, Halliburton or Chevron, the more “democracy” and “stability” will reign amid the region.

Obama, based on this new political philosophy, made his appearences, to present a supposed new strategic military doctrine, on the 5th January last. Some media considered the USA’s president’s statements as an “expenses “ and “ military means” reduction. But, Obama himself, explains that “in fact, the military budget will carry on being higher than the one existent at the end of Bush’s administration”. And he adds: “ I’m sure the American people will understand we can sustain our military force and our nation’s security with a budget, which, in the future, will carry on being higher than the whole of the ten future military stronger countries. Panetta, the minister of Defence, on explaining the meaning of the new Pentagon’s document, entitled “ Keeping the USA’s leader role - Priorities on a Defence policy for the XXI century“, says the military naval and air forces will have a major role, with the help of tele-driven engines and weapons. Therefore, the USA start from the opinion, of the principle that if a regime is not of their likeness, they can undergo and have the right of assassinating, at a distance, the political and military leaders who do not obey their orders.

The urgency of the struggle for peace and against the imperialist wars, carries on to be a crucial issue for humanity and for the future of democracy, the peoples’ power. The rhetoric and strategic changes, operated by imperialism, do not change their domain purposes, nor their criminal, aggressive and oppressor character.
