Solidarity with the struggle in Ecuador

The PCP addressed messages of solidarity to the Communist Party of Ecuador and the Citizen Revolution movement following the escalating repression and imposition of the State of Exception last week by the Ecuadorian government.

The legitimate protests of broad popular groups, in view of very serious economic and labour measures that severely affect the living conditions of workers and the people, have been met with the government’s harsh repression, including the arrest of hundreds of leaders and the arbitrary use of force.

To the PCP, these measures further deepen the character of national abdication and subordination of President Moreno's government to imperialism, US interventionist manoeuvres and the IMF's neoliberal orthodoxy, in sharp contrast and setback to the path of social progress and national sovereignty of a decade by the Citizen Revolution process.

In its messages, the PCP reaffirmed its solidarity with the Ecuadorian workers and people, and with the revolutionary and progressive forces of Ecuador in their struggle to stop the undemocratic and antinational attack of the oligarchy forces and return the country to a path of sovereign development and social progress, based on the recognition and materialisation of the just aspirations and genuine expectations of the Ecuadorian workers and people.
