"Palestine will win! "

Translated "Avante!" Article by Rui Paz, collaborator of the International Department

In September the Palestinian people will try that the General Assembly of the United Nations welcomes the Sovereign and Independent State of Palestine as member with full rights. After long decades of complicity of NATO’s potencies with the Israeli military occupancy, the Palestinian people will attempt to give an important step towards the realization of their most profound wishes of peace, liberty and respect for their legitimate national rights. The Zionist strategy followed up until now by Tel Aviv and the imperialism has not only surpassed the known inhumanity of the fascist regime of apartheid, but has also introduced terrible elements of oppression which are unacceptable in a world that aims to be civilized, by promoting numerous attempts to divide and promote divergences between Palestinian leaders and movements; populating Palestine with illegal settlements; extorting the best arable land, sources and reservoirs of water; systematically demolishing and putting down houses and arable crops and deporting entire communities.

Amongst the most brutal and criminal moments of the Israeli terror the Saabra and Chatila massacres or the burial of live men, women and children in the wreckage in Jenin, as well as the bombardments in Gaza and in the South of Lebanon, should be highlighted. We should not forget the prison, torture and the assassination of leaders and thousands of activists belonging to the Palestinian Resistance or the siege and bombardment the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah in 2002, and the assassination attempt of Yasser Arafat, whose headquarters were bombarded by Israeli tanks and helicopters.

But not even the construction of a 4 meters high wall that transformed the Arab territories in a giant prison, separating families and entire communities, has broken the determination of a people that on a daily basis demonstrates that despites how big the present military strength of the imperialism is, the People’s struggle is a determinant factor in determining the outcome of mankind future paths.

Palestinian youth traumatized when facing the situation their homeland is in nowadays, after analysing the history of the last 60 years, will easily realize that Israel is a State that was brought up by violence in the name of a religion.
Dominant sectors of the imperialism and of NATO, such as USA and Germany, are already making all the efforts to stop in September the proclamation of the Palestinian State in the UN, clamming the failure to obtain Israeli consent. Obama has already announced that the US will use all the means at their disposal to oppose this attempt. Washington and Berlin want to continue to impose the hypocrite principle of making the rights of a victim to freedom and to the end of suffering dependent on the authorization of its oppressor. It is the same strategic concept that has lead Washington and his allies to attack the people that have most actively supported Palestine and that refuse to cave to North-American dominance.

In the latest public statement, PCP’s CC “expresses his solidarity with the People’s struggle within the Arab World and declares the aggression against Libya as one more war in which imperialism, in an attempt to frustrate the aspirations of the Arab people and destroy the Palestinian cause, aims to consolidate its positions in the region by trying to take control of their natural resources”.

Every supporter of peace and, above all, of the Palestinian people, are looking forward to greeting the proclamation of the free, sovereign and independent state of Palestine as a member of UN, with the frontiers as stated in 1967 and capital in Oriental Jerusalem. Its our responsibility to demand that the Portuguese Government, which currently has a seat in the Security Council, respects the constitutional demand of opposing the oppression and subjugation of the Palestinian people and vote in favour of the recognition of Palestine. Despite what the outcome of this initiative is, Palestine will win!
