"Iraq once again"

Translated "Avante!" article by Albano Nunes, Member of the Secretariat of the CC

Iraq once again. Once again, a mysterious band of “terrorists”, spreading death and destruction. Once again, the dramatic appeals’ orchestration towards a USA saviour military intervention. Once again, dense smoke curtains hindering the sudden “ Iraq Islamic and East State” (EIIL) emergency and the role of this Al Qaeda and CIA issues, within an oil region’s complex chess, and where imperialism, upon the serious suffered defeats, seeks to re-launch the aggression against Syria and the pressure to submit Iran . It is peremptory to expose a manipulated and Manichaeism information in which the “good ones” are imperialism and its puppets and the “bad ones” are always “terrorists” and “ fanatics”, in an endless confrontation, in which no forces hold ideals, and nor the class struggle nor the national issue exists. And therefore, the historical memory is totally absent, as being the best way of changing those who are the Arab peoples’ worst and most cruel enemies, It is timely into their protectors, presenting the violent exploitation and planetarium re-colonization process, as liberating.

It is timely to recall that the Iraq people handed over to universal civilization a most valuable contribution, had a leading role in heroic struggles, and its country dramatic situation was caused by imperialism’s action, targeting its wealth and impeding Iraq’s and other Arab peoples’ progressive change. It is necessary to never forget the great powers struggle for the world’s partition, leading to World War I catastrophe, the Ottoman empire dismantlement, which reached its tentacles unto Iraq, the Anglo-French partition in the region, by changing Iraq into a British protectorate, under the USA’s vigilance, preparing to take over England’s position, as a dominant power. Resistance before foreign domain is a constant presence between both wars. Under the Nazi-Fascism defeat’s influence and the USSR’s prestige together with its internationalist solidarity policy, the Arab peoples’ national liberating movement lives a vigorous increase. Syria and Lebanon achieve their independence. In Egypt, the Nasser’s revolution and the Suez channel imperialist fiasco, take place.

Within Iraq, many great popular struggles develop, conducted by the national small - bourgeoisie, forever contradictory, but however, in which the workers’ class and its prestigious Communist Party hold a major role. The bumpy process, which initiated the 1958 revolution, throwing down King Faiçal II monarchy, became ten years after, a nationalist government , presided by Al Bakr, who nationalizes the Iraq Petroleum Company, that Sadam Hussein subverts, by standing by the imperialism’s side. From then onwards, one knows what has happened: communists and further patriotic forces’ repression, war against Iran, targeting its popular revolution liquidation, Kuwait’s invasion, under the pretext of an aggression brutal war and the well-known proclamation of Bush’s “ new world order” over the USSR ruins. Finally, when the master’s strategy was no more useful, one assisted to Sadam’s diabolising, to the enormous amount of lies in which the 2003 invasion was based on and a great country’s destruction so that multinational companies’ business, were to prosper.

Recalling all this, is pointing out the finger to responsible criminals for the EIIL’s nebula, which is being used to justify the USA’s new aggressive military escalade in the region, and one ought to foresee serious consequences.
