"Imperial caliphate"

Translated "Avante!" article by Jorge Cadima, Member of the PCP International Department

What is happening in Iraq begins to hold clearer contours. During these last days, one has watched the very propagated “ Islamic State declaration”, which ought to include parts from Iraq and Syria. Far from being received with nom de guerre statements by imperialist powers, its propaganda organs almost but seem to praise the initiative. A BBC journalist wrote (in 2014.06.30): “ the Caliphate establishment is rich in religious, cultural and historical significance. Sunnite radical generations have dreamt with the moment when Abu Mohammad al-Adnani, in the ISIS spokesman‘s words, “the Muslims will be free from humiliation and disgrace dust and in the end, a new caliphate rises from the chaos, confusion and despair of the modern Middle East”[…] the image of the old boarders dismantlement from colonial times, is a powerful statement, in order to attract new recruits for this fulgurate jihad”. At the very same time, Israel makes its appearance promoting the birth of a Kurd state. Natanyahu, the criminal prime-minister states: “ One ought to support the Kurdish aim for independence” and the Kurds are “ a nation of soldiers who have proved their political commitment and deserve independence” (in the Guardian, 2014.06.29). If these words were to be sincere, the martyr Palestinian people would have achieved their own state, a long time ago. But Natanyahu’s intention is otherwise: “Israel ought to hold a military presence along all the West Bank, during the predicable future”. What matters is to create “ a broader alliance together with moderate forces, in the region”, including Jordan and the Kurds. And of course, all this lubricated,: according to Reuters (in 2014.06.27) “the first Kurd oil loadings were purchased by Israel, last week”, by default of the state of Iraq, the country from where the oil was issued. Following the Financial Times (2014.06.27), even Turkey was to be “ready to accept a Kurd state, in a historical turning point”. The Turkish greatest oil company leader, says “ to be under great pressure, both from Ankara and the [ Iraq Kurdistan] in order to purchase Kurd oil, but did not achieve to do it, in order not to jeopardize the Bagdad purchases”. The recent Kirkuk Kurd occupation places the Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipelines out of the Iraq government’s reach.

The “Middle East chaos” is not mere chance. It holds parenthood, supporters and active promoters. And taking a look at the USA Colonel Peters’ map, published eight years ago by the USA Army Forces magazine ( Armed Forces Journal, June 2006) it seems the “new Middle East” holds a guide. Iraq is being dismantled. One ought to recall Kurds live in two other countries ( Syria and Iran), the latter included in the USA’s target list. Imperialism is not moved by the Kurds’ right to their auto- determination. Balkanization is an old imperial domination technique. The Middle East fragmentation targets all states which, have been a barrier to imperialist great powers and Israel, in the last decades. And opens up the road towards Iran.

The use of mysterious criminal mercenary bands is an old imperialism arsenal weapon. Robin Cook, the eloquent British Tory ex- minister of the Foreign Affairs, (who stepped down as minister) unto parliamentarian matters as a protest against the Iraq invasion) wrote, in 2005: “ Al-Qaeda, which literally signifies “ data base”, was originally the computer data, holding thousands of mudjahedines, which were recruited and trained, monitored by the CIA, in order to defeat the Russians [ in Afghanistan]”. Cook died, less than a month upon writing these words. Supposing to have been from a heart attack. But the imperialist jihad carries on.
